**Hours**:Part time / Term Time / Mon-Fri / 20.5 hours

**Location**:Great Cornard Sudbury, Suffolk

We are currently recruiting for a passionate Kitchen Assistant to join our wonderful Great Cornard Day Nursery and Preschool. Our nursery is situated in Sudbury, Suffolk.

Our 62-place nursery is proudly Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ for the fourth time in a row Children enjoy using the building blocks, painting in the art area, discovering how the world works with science experiments, using the indoor climbing frames, reading in the book corner and playing exciting word and number games.

The nursery also features separate age-appropriate gardens with space for the children to play and develop their gross motor skills. Favourites include the slide, balance equipment and the covered outdoor seating area

**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**:

- Keep the kitchen in a clean and safe environment adhering to internal and external requirements
- Encourage and model behaviour which is appropriate in a child environment being professional at all times
- Ensure you meet the legal and company requirements for fire, safety, health & hygiene at all items and necessary paperwork is completed
- Support the preparation and cooking enough age appropriate food for all the children on a daily basis with minimum wastage
- Take responsibility to make sure all dietary requirements are catered for and clearly communicated to the teams
- To respond appropriately to issues requiring confidentiality: for example being aware of personal information regarding children
- Support, promote and implement policies and procedures
- Fulfil their roles, responsibilities and legislation duty in relation to safeguarding children by ensure that they have read understood and implement the Safeguarding Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure that they have completed Child Protection training every two years as set out in the Child Protection Policy and that this training impacts on their ability to safeguard the children in their care
- Work in co-operation and partnership with the Chef, Nursery team and parents to encourage a healthy and nutritious diet
- Support the Chef to ensure budgetary requirements are met
- Use nominated suppliers and ensure all deliveries are accurate and record keeping is kept up to date
- Support with other activities with the nursery events e.g. BBQ’s, Fetes, Staff meetings, children’s cookery clubs
- To take reasonable care of yourself and others and to comply with company Health and Safety guidelines
- Support the Chef and manager to work as a team to ensure a good or better inspection outcome
- Understand the importance of keeping everyone safe and the part you play
- Demonstrate a proactive approach using your initiative and showing resilience to take responsibility with a can do attitude.
- In the absence of the Chef, be responsible for the safe running of the kitchen

**Essential Experience**:

- Experience in any role which involves cooking in domestic or commercial property
- Food Safety CIEH L2 or above or equivalent - this must be passed on day 1 in post
- Sound Knowledge of COSHH

**Experience Desirable**:

- Experience in any role that involved cooking for young children
- Understanding of EHO process
- Able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of managing different dietary requirement around food allergies.

**Qualifications**:

- Food Safety CIEH L2 or above or equivalent - this must be passed on day 1 in post

**Personal attributes**:

- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to communicate with both adults, children and parents
- Ability to communicate clearly using a variety of techniques.
- Ability to encourage team effort
