Ward Clerk

The Surgical Unit seeks a Band 2 Ward Clerk who is responsive to the needs of modernising health care demands. The job is for Ward 5, a 13 bedded Surgical inpatient ward, Surgical Day Case Unit and the Surgical Treatment Unit, which accommodate patients undergoing day case procedures under both general and local anaesthetic.

We are looking for a flexible, enthusiastic, well-motivated person capable of working in a busy and challenging environment. This post requires an individual with excellent communication skills, a good telephone manner, the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and be able to work to deadlines. You must be computer literate and previous experience of working in an administrative role in a hospital setting would be desirable.

Duties will include liaising with the general public, dealing with telephone enquiries, general filing and administrative activities relating to the admission, discharge and handling of patient notes. You will be required to liaise with staff at all levels and to demonstrate a dedicated approach in providing a high quality service. There may be a need to work the hours flexibly to meet the needs of the service

The post holder is required to work as a proactive member of the ward team and to undertake a range of duties to assist the ward team in maintaining the smooth running of the clinical areas.

The post holder will liaise with and provide the multidisciplinary team with timely and accurate information required to support and maintain patient flow, under the direction of the ward manager.
