Grimsby, United Kingdom Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Due to exciting change within our Site Management Team we are looking for senior nurses to join our Site Team as Site Matrons. These posts are available as either a substantive post or as a 12-month secondment development opportunity.

The Site Matron role is pivotal to the effective and safe operational running of our hospitals with a focus on patient safety and experience. You will need to have plenty of drive in pursuing high quality patient care and thrive on a challenge.

The purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate the hospital site including the clinical and operational patient flow from admission to discharge through Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals (NLaG). This role is central for optimising patient flow, facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered. This will include both emergency and elective flows, ensuring a strong oversight 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The newly appointed Site Matron will need proven leadership skills, and the ability to show initiative and willingness to work in an innovative manner. An individual development plan will support new post holders to develop their senior operational management knowledge and skills.

You will be a 1st level Registered Nurse or Registered Allied Health Professional with significant experience of site management or equivalent senior level management along with an in-depth knowledge of policies relating to the assessment and discharge process as you will be a source of advice and guidance to colleagues. You will be an expert resource for patient flow ensuring the hospital’s capacity is used as efficiently as possible and reducing in-patient length of stay.

This is a new role requiring a visible and credible leader who will be focused on the quality of the patient experience through delivery of high quality, safe and effective care. Reporting to the Associate Director of Central Operations and professionally to the Associate Chief Nurse of Central Operations, the post holder will ensure the key functions of the role are undertaken across the Trust. The post holder will work with operational managers, nursing teams and clinicians across the site to ensure effective delivery of patient pathways and ensure effective site management aligned to the Trust escalation and surge processes.

We’re a large organisation with three hospitals located in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole. We also provide community services in North Lincolnshire. Our 6,500 members of staff care for and support a population of more than 400,000 people.

We encourage all our staff to innovate and adopt ‘best practice’ so we can deliver excellent care to our patients. We ask staff to live our values; kindness, courage and respect.

We are committed to recruiting the best people to work with us. You could be one of them.

In line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Recruitment & Workforce team will use and hold your personal data for the intended purpose and in line with the Recruitment & Workforce Privacy Statement.

“We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of children/vulnerable adults and expect the same commitment from all staff and volunteers”.

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check, if it is required for their role.

At NLaG we really like to get to know our people. So, for this role we have set up introductory meetings with your future potential colleagues, to really get a feel of what it is like working within the Site Matron role and Site Management Team to know that this role is right for you.

The post holder will undertake the role of the Tactical Health Commander (silver) when on duty for their respective site and will directly liaise with the Gold On-call as required. This will include escalations and appropriate actions aligned to the role of Tactical Health Commander during normal operational processes, being the senior management lead on-site, and during a major/critical incident or business continuity incident.

We are committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. As employers we are committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health and well-being of all our staff. This underpins our values as set out in the NHS Constitution, supports us to be an Employer of Choice and ultimately enables our employees to support the effective care of our patients.
