Derby, United Kingdom East Midlands Wood Recycling CIC Full time

WOOD WORKSHOP VOLUNTEER

Participating as a workshop volunteer involves collaborating closely with the entire EMWR team, including the retail and collection departments, to breathe life into the reclaimed timber we gather.

You'll always have guidance and support; a workshop staff member will oversee your training during your induction, though you'll glean knowledge from all team members and fellow volunteers, as we operate as a close team. You will be required to learn and adhere to our health and safety procedures. We will provide instruction on the pertinent modules during your induction and train you on the safe and efficient use of necessary tools.

No previous experience necessary but D.I.Y. and carpentry experience will be an advantage. A practical approach and willingness to be involved in physical activity such as lifting, fetching and carrying wood is required.

YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE:

- Preparing recycled wood for workshop use by denailing, trimming damaged ends, and removing metal fixtures.
- Familiarizing yourself with and utilizing hand tools, and potentially advancing to power tools as you gain experience.
- Cutting timber to suitable sizes for further processing by our woodworking team.
- Refining finished wood products through sanding and oiling.
- Contributing to the upkeep of the workshop's cleanliness and safety in collaboration with the team.
- Assisting in the reorganization of the workshop layout.
- Supporting the woodworking operations of our Social Enterprise, which may involve unloading vans, locating specific woods for customers, pricing timbers, and assisting with online shop orders.

OUR SUPPORT
- Financial assistance for travel and lunch expenses.
- Valuable work experience and references.
- DBS checks (Disclosure and Barring Service) for enhanced safeguarding.
- Access to additional training opportunities.
