**About the Role**:
South Lanarkshire Young Carers Service is a service in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council to provide support, information, and advice to young carers in line with the Local Young Carers Strategy. Working in partnership with education, social work, health, and other local voluntary organisations we will provide a range of supports which enable young carers to progress, improve their wellbeing and meet key outcomes. We cover 5 localities in South Lanarkshire - Hamilton, East Kilbride, Cambuslang, Rutherglen, and Clydesdale.

As a Young Person Practitioner, you will raise awareness, identify, and provide direct support to children and young people who look after or help to look after someone in their family who is unwell or disabled, including children caring for parents who have mental health or substance misuse problems.

You'll be working full time, Monday to Friday with evening work and some weekends. We also take our young carers away on short breaks so there will be some potential trips away (in school holidays).

This is a funded role which we have secured since 2020. As with all funded roles, if the funding gets extended, so will the duration of the role.

**You will help our** **Children and** **Young** **People by**:

- Delivering a high-quality service to children, young people and their families, based on an assessment of need and is outcomes driven.
- Demonstrating an understanding of the issues faced by young
- Working as part of a team or a wider multi-disciplinary group
- Demonstrating the ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
- Supporting and understanding transitions for children and young people.
- Understanding and reflecting in daily practice and outcome focussed approach to working with children and young people.
- Engaging with young people and their families within the realms of confidentiality.
- Helping children and young people better understand their own behaviours and emotions whilst building positive relationships.

Our job description for the **Young Person Practitioner** outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are:

- HNC / SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or working towards.
- Experience of working with young people.
- Knowledge of working with vulnerable children and young people.
- Some experience in working with children and young people in a community setting.
- Some Experience of working with children and young people on a 1:1 and small group setting.
- Competent user of Microsoft office packages.
- Access and legal ability to use a car. The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
