**Job Purpose**-The group is seeking to appoint a Research Technologist to provide day-to-day research and development leadership in the microelectronics area of the group, ensuring professional and timely delivery of research projects running in the group. Their main job would be to work with Prof Hadi Heidari and technically lead the delivery of research projects (12 projects currently).
They will support our researchers (~30 people) in terms of training, experimental design, planning/developing technical aspects of research projects and help them with their work in our
labs.
The post holder will also contribute significantly to the strategic development of the research activities of the meLAB, liaising with researchers active in the group to understand their current and future processing requirements.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Contribute research and development leadership within the meLAB, ensuring that the microelectronics and nanofabrication requirements of the research projects and partners are understood and met.
2. Play a key role in developing microelectronics and nanofabrication within the group.
3. Provide advice and education to researchers in the group in the area microelectronics and nanofabrication.
4. Establish a key position in the global research community (international conferences, refereed journal publications, leading academic/industrial research institutions and equipment manufacturers).
5. Strive to improve best practices for microelectronics and nanofabrication in the group and promote a culture of continuous process improvement.
6. Secure funding (either independently or collaboratively) as required, to enable pioneering microelectronics and nanofabrication-related research.
7. Liaise with School staff (academics, researchers and technicians) as necessary to establish and maintain a robust microelectronics infrastructure that supports and compliments a high demand throughput.
8. Conduct analysis of tool operational data as well as monitor delivery of targets, providing regular reports to Prof Hadi Heidari to inform strategic direction, resource allocation and financial decision-making.
9. Work closely with Prof Hadi Heidari and technician in the group for scheduling and managing the installation of new equipment and decommissioning old equipment.
10. Represent the group at flagship events and contribute to the ongoing marketing focussed specifically on visitors to and users of the facility, ensuring users receive appropriate briefings and training on use of facility equipment.
11. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan World Changers Together

12. Take responsibility for developing microelectronics processes within the group with a view to adding new capabilities, refining existing techniques and improving yield and throughput.
13. Maintain and extend a key position in the global research community (international conferences, refereed journal publications, leading academic/industrial research institutions and equipment manufacturers).
14. Lead activities which improve best practices for microelectronics and nanofabrication in the group and promote a culture of continuous process improvement.

A1 Professionally qualified, normally with a PhD in a relevant discipline or technically trained in an academic or industrial engineering environment to the equivalent standard.
A2 Specialist theoretical and demonstrable practical knowledge of microelectronics and nanofabrication.

C2 Demonstrable and proven leadership and project management skills, including evidence of major contributions to delivering several projects simultaneously whose success was enabled by the development of innovative microelectronics and nanofabrication based solutions.
C3 Demonstrable track record in proactively planning, organizing, reprioritizing and delivering major technical projects.
C4 Demonstrable capacity to think strategically whilst enhancing operational priorities.
C5 Proven track record in effective team leadership in an industrial and/or academic setting.
C6 Proven people management skills including managing and motivating staff, building teams and developing team members’ skills and knowledge.
C7 Demonstrable track record of undertaking independent research and generating original ideas in the area of microelectronics and nanofabrication.
C8 Demonstrable and sustained track record in making a significant contribution to securing research funding, either independently or collaboratively for projects utilizing microelectronics and nanofabrication.
