EQUANS are recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant / Groundsman to be based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent full-time role working 37 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

The position of Maintenance Assistant / Groundsman is pivotal in the delivery of the services at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Working as part of a team within the Technical Department the successful applicant will deliver maintenance and groundworks throughout site.

General Overview

The post holder will have the required maintenance skills to ensure the safe and continuous operation of the internal and external fabric. Working within the fabric team and reporting to the fabric supervisor and fabric manager.

The objective of the department is to operate and maintain a physical environment in which healthcare can be delivered to the patient. The main elements being the maintenance of both, building fabric, grounds and services e.g. external and internal finishes, fittings and fixtures. The provision of a project management service to Consort Healthcare from initial brief and preparation of contract documentation through tendering, contract supervision to completion. Works ranging from minor alterations to major refurbishments.

Compliance with all statutory requirements in relation to safe working practices and safe operation of equipment and services.

Keeping Records of all aforementioned activities as per all Health Technical Memoranda and Quality Assurance Requirements and to provide professional advice and guidance on all aspects of building services maintenance and repair.

What will you deliver?

Carry out and assist with maintenance, repairs, testing, inspection and installation work.
Where instructed, carry out minor repairs to ensure the safety and security of the client’s premises, staff and visitors.
Respond in a safe manner to the effects of bad weather, e.g. Snow clearing, gritting, flooding, high winds, etc.
Undertake training to maintain and develop the requirements of the service.
Ensure Health and Safety policies are strictly adhered to.
Liaise with and maintain good working relationship with clients
Liaise with supervisor and line manager regarding any issues on site that you feel in your professional opinion need to be escalated
Assist the subcontractors whilst attending site
Work Overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required.
Undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the Fabric Supervisor.
To liaise with Fabric Supervisor and Fabric Manager regarding request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.
Using cause effect analysis and detailed examination to gain a solution and use all relevant drawings and schematics.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with published procedures.
Carry out planned and preventative maintenance
Assist trades if required
Uplifting of rubbish from around grounds
Removal of rubbish bags from bins
Sweeping of roads, side kerbs and pavements with sweeping machine
