The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership is a highly successful Multi Academy Trust (MAT) encompassing six secondary schools, 13 primary schools, a Teaching School Hub, and School Centred Initial Teacher Training provider. Our schools are based in North Birmingham, Tamworth, Lichfield, North Warwickshire and Coventry.

We are seeking to appoint a Level 3 Learning Mentor. To be successful in this role, you must be able to build meaningful relationships with pupils who may display a variety of needs.

You will need to be able to effectively communicate with staff, parents and external professionals to ensure that the needs of the children are met and they are safe at all times.

The role will primarily be a pastoral role, working to find strategies to overcome lack of self-confidence, self-esteem or other difficulties, which a child may be facing. The aim of your role is to ensure that the students’ personal well-being is improved and maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities:
as a learning mentor, in conjunction with the inclusion lead, you’ll typically need to:
liaise with staff to identify children who would benefit from mentoring

discuss and help decide how identified needs will be addressed

implement strategies and support children in self-esteem and confidence-building activities

listen to children and help them resolve a range of issues that are creating barriers to their learning

draw up agreed action plans with children, outlining the aims of the mentoring, and monitor their progress help monitor attendance and punctuality of children

implement evidence-based research/interventions to impact positively on pupil outcomes

inspire and motivate children and help to promote positive behaviour

run group sessions and workshops for parents at school

network with other learning mentors, teachers and relevant external agencies and professionals adopt de-escalation strategies to support children to manage their emotions

provide group activities, such as workshops on emotional regulation, resilience and youth mental health

maintain accurate records and prepare written reports and evaluations

attend meetings relating to issues, such as pastoral support and pupil inclusion

actively participate in professional development, undertaking relevant training and sharing best practice with other learning mentors

help with transition activities for children moving to secondary schools or on to further education

be passionate, not only about the educational outcomes of a child, but also their social and emotional development

believe that all children and families, with the support of schools, are able to thrive

be confident to articulate the needs of a child, as their advocate

demonstrate a positive attitude and be able to reflect on feedback/own practice

be able to show initiative, creativity and innovation

promote the agreed vision and aims of the school and the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership

set an example of personal integrity and professionalism

have a strong understanding of attachment issues, trauma-informed practices and nurture-based provision, knowing how to support children affected by these issues

be committed to promoting the Equality Act 2010
