Role Summary To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the assigned caseload of patients across the Rehabilitation Network Hub within the Walton Centre. Key responsibilities Clinical Duties To provide a quality Speech and Language Service to the communication and swallowing disordered population which enables them to reach their optimum level To provide assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with acquired communication disorders with clinical supervision, as appropriate, and to develop skills in dysphagia to a level of independent clinical practice, following formal training and clinical supervision until deemed competent To train and advise carers and staff involved in the patients care as appropriate To liaise with other members of the Multi-disciplinary team, such as doctors, nurses, etc, and inform them of assessment results. To record assessment and therapy results in medical case notes. To attend ward meetings where possible.

To maintain appropriate and regular case records. To keep accurate statistical information in accordance with Departmental Policy. To attend Speech and Language Therapy meetings. To participate in orientation and induction of staff.

To make decisions regarding timing of discharge from the service based on outcome of clinical interventions. To liaise with other teams, agencies and Speech and Language Therapists in referring for outpatient follow up on discharge from hospital. To carry out day-to-day administration of patients To provide cover for other parts of the service as required. To keep the Speech and Language Therapy Manager informed of any changes in the service or variation in demand to the Service.

To refer service development issues to the Speech and Language Therapy Manager. To carry out any other duties appropriate to grade of post. Education and Development To be involved in undergraduate student training, under supervision by more experienced Speech and Language Therapists. To be involved, with supervision, in teaching at training establishments.

To be involved in working with Assistant Speech and Language Therapists. To attend training courses in clinical areas appropriate to job and as part of the development skills and competencies. To actively seek information relating to developments in the treatment of patients within clinical area. To participate in the Trust appraisal system, setting goals and objectives for the development of skills and competencies.

Clinical Governance To provide departmental data to the Speech and Language Therapy Manager regarding patients within clinical area. To be aware of evidenced based practice regarding new techniques and treatment methods. To accept and adhere to policies and standards set by the Walton Centre Speech and Language Therapy Department. To participate in departmental Clinical Audit as designated by Audit Lead, including ongoing evaluation of clinical outcomes.

To comply with Health and Safety Regulations. To participate in risk assessments as required.
