Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a highly motivated and patient focused Healthcare Assistant to work within our Outpatient Departments. This is an exciting opportunity to join our expansive department that is part of the Clinical Support Services division.

Outpatient Department is the shop window to the hospital. We have seven different specialisms within our busy department; they include Surgical, Medical, Cardiac, Orthopaedics; Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial and Ears Nose and Throat.

Our Departments play a vital role in supporting patients and helping them remain in the community and in their homes whilst they receive high quality specialised care as outpatients.

As a Trust, we recommend that individuals employed in patient facing roles, or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The post holder will work as an integral part of the Outpatient team and be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient and environmental facilities/services in the Outpatient area, ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment.

The main elements of the role are ensuring the effective provisions of stock ordering, cleaning and maintenance services within Outpatients. You will also be required to undertake other non-clinical duties to meet individual patient / service needs as determined by the department sister/charge nurse and to liaise with support service departments.

To assist the department Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure the appropriate and effective delivery of facilities services in order to properly maintain the patient / clinical environment.

The post holder must comply with all relevant policies, procedures and training on infection prevention and control.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To establish a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere and environment for patients, visitors and staff.

To maintain a clean and tidy environment (all clinical areas, sluice, nurses station, patient areas, waiting rooms etc)

To clean equipment as and when required and ensure ready for use.

To ensure correct stock levels are maintained and that stock is correctly stored in a timely manner.

To ensure all faulty equipment reported to the relevant department and sent for repair.

To complete and submit the Environmental Audit quarterly.

To ensure spillages (non-clinical) are dealt with swiftly and

To ensure the clinical area, clinic rooms and waiting areas, are safe and tidy at all times.

Report soiled curtains to the appropriate department and arrange for them to be changed. Also ensure the curtains are changed every 6 months.

To ensure out of date information is removed from notice boards and that all information displayed within the outpatient areas is laminated.

To ensure that all alcohol gel dispensers, paper towels, are replenished, thus contributing to the prevention of cross infection from one person to

To take responsibility for the hygiene standards of the kitchen area, including the staff fridges. To monitor fridge temperature, and take action where Ensure food in fridge is labelled, dated and any out of date food disposed of.

To ensure waste is segregated and disposed of into correct waste streams, waste bins are kept in good condition and

To report any non-compliance with the Trust waste policy and procedure to the sister/charge nurse.

To liaise on a regular basis with the Matron regarding feedback and action required following infection control

Print off new cleaning rotas and collect in the previous weeks cleaning rota’s and ensure they are dated and labelled.

Run the taps twice weekly to ensure the prevention of Legionella and report any problems accordingly.

Check and report if required the hospital wheelchairs that are kept at the reception to main outpatients.

Collect and distribute investigations requests to the relevant departments and record
