This is an exciting opportunity to work within well-established work areas for patients with a primary diagnosis of server mental illness or personality disorder.

The post will be based within the high security, forensic hospital environment as part of a team working with patients learning new work ability skills.

The hospital has moved to a new bespoke hospital and is the most modern high security forensic hospital in the country. The hospital focuses on innovative care to a challenging and interesting patient group. The hospital focuses on reducing risk and offending behaviours.

We are looking to offer a job to a resourceful, motivated person who can demonstrate skill in engaging patients and team work. There are opportunities to progress in the service a via Occupational Therapy apprenticeship or through the Rehabilitation Therapy Service and the development of technical skills in teaching patients skills.

The RTS Assistant post is based in the Rehabilitation Therapy Service (RTS) within the high security setting of Broadmoor hospital. The aim of the service is to engage, support and develop patients as part of their recovery through engagement in meaningful therapeutic activities. The RTS assistant would work as part of a close team of staff who work together to provide a wide range of activities which help patients develop work skills. These skills could be personal organisation and time management, concentration on a task, following instructions or copying tasks. These skills are developed through a variety of activities includingbike maintenance, wood craft skills, pottery and silver clay, picture framing, professional publishing and printing.

The RTS assistant need to be able engage with patients and staff and support the process of the work ability sessions. It is helpful to have be able to learn practical tasks easily and to be a good communicator.

The new hospital is situated in a beautiful area of Berkshire with easy access to the M3 and M4 motorways. There is a full three-week induction to the hospital and ongoing supervision and support each month.

The Rehabilitation Therapy Service (RTS) attracts staff who stay in their post for long periods of time due to job satisfaction and an understanding of the value of the importance of their role has in contribution to patients’ rehabilitation.

**Grade**: Band 3

**Key Result Areas & Performance**:
1. The RTS Assistant will work as part of a team who offer patients creative/ vocational activates such as bike maintenance, woodwork, pottery and silver clay, gardening, picture framing, printing and publishing
2. To ensure that the area /unit for which the post holder is responsible provides meaningful therapeutic activity to patients in admissions, high dependency and assertive rehabilitation wards
3. To actively assist in running work ability sessions for patients and consider possible adaptations for different patient’s skill level, age, culture
4. The post holder will be a resource for the team and actively engage in a minimum of 90% of patient sessions
5. The post holder will regularly make accurate and professional notes in patients RiO patient electronic record
6. The post hold will complete patient activity data after each session, 100% patient update reports are completed in a comprehensive and meaningful format recording patients’ achievements
7. The post holder will take joint responsibility in complete the daily, weekly and quarterly environmental checks and all safety and security procedures are completed in an accurate and timely manner
8. To check equipment used in activity is in good working order prior to use by staff or patients and any faults are reported to the manager.
