Oncology Dietitian

Delivers specialised dietetic services to oncology/haematology settings, including inpatient wards and outpatient areas including dietetic clinics, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and joint multidiscinary clinics, using a wide range of appropriate and sensitive communication skills and counselling, and behaviour change techniques. Uses analytical and problem solving skills to interpret, analyse and evaluate complex information from a variety of sources e.g. medical notes, diagnostic tests, clinical investigations and information from patients and carers. Uses a wide range of appropriate communication skills and demonstrates a willingness to develop enhanced communication skills, such as counselling, negotiating skills and behaviour change techniques.
To communicate and process complex and sensitive information to and from patients, carers and multi-disciplinary team. To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing dietetic input to patients with cancer, including contributing at multidisplinary meetings and working closely with clinical nurse specialists, speech and language therapy and other specialities. To actively participate in ward meetings, ward rounds, case conferences as appropriate. To liaise with and work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, building and maintaining effective working relationships within the Trust and the health economy.
