Surrey Sexual Health & HIV Service is excited to offer this newly developed job opportunity for a sexual health Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocate (IDSVA). This service will meet the needs of all victims/survivors, including LGBTQ+, female and male survivors who access the service.

The IDSVA will receive referrals from within the service and will offer advice and support to low, medium and high-risk victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence and abuse in order to reduce the risk of harm to victims/survivors and their children, aid recovery and improve their wellbeing.

The post holder will be acting as the sexual health Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocate (IDSVA) for Surrey Sexual Health Service. Whilst most survivors of domestic and sexual violence and abuse are female, this service will meet the needs of all victim/survivors, including LGBTQ+, and male survivors who may access the service.

The Sexual Health IDSVA will be located across the three Surrey sexual health clinic hubs sites according to demand. The IDSVA will receive referrals from within the Surrey Sexual Health & HIV service. The post holder will advise and support low, medium and high-risk victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence and abuse, to reduce the risk of harm to victims/survivors and their children, aid recovery and improve their wellbeing. The post holder will assess the level of risk, provide information, advice, support and advocacy, discuss the range of suitable options, develop safety plans based on the client’s situation and individual needs and make onward referrals as required.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Advocacy and Support
- To amplify the voices of clients and to advocate on their behalf with other agencies
- To enable clients to understand and access their rights
- To undertake risk and safety assessments and develop safety plans with the client based on their individual needs
- To support clients to recover from their experiences of abuse through increasing self-protective factors
- To keep clients and carers and relevant agencies informed of activities where appropriate and it is necessary to do so
- To provide an inclusive service that recognises the importance of equality, diversity, inclusion and respect

Case Management
- To undertake risk assessment and onward referral to relevant regional services in Surrey and beyond if required To manage electronic patient records in accordance with CNWL policies and procedures
- Attend and contribute to the weekly Surrey Safeguarding MDT completing actions from the MDT as required
- When required, attend and contribute to other relevant MDT meetings, such as the weekly Service-wide Complex Safeguarding MDT
- Be a point of contact for Surrey Sexual Health & HIV service staff providing advice and support as required
- The post holder will link in with wider CNWL DA team including supervision

Partnership Working
- To support the integration of the IDSVA within the Surrey Sexual Health & HIV Service
- To attend MARAC, MACE and Safeguarding meetings as required
- To contribute to awareness training for Surrey staff
- To develop networks with other relevant regional services in the interests of managing caseload, such as Surrey domestic abuse organisations and Surrey police.

Safeguarding
- To ensure that all work with clients is carried out with regard to relevant Safeguarding legislation and guidance, including CNWL Safeguarding policies and procedures, Surrey Safeguarding Children’s Partnership (SSCP) and Surrey Safeguarding Adults Board (SSAB) Policies and Procedures
