**Department Overview**

Climate change, and society’s responses to it, creates financial risks and economic consequences that impact upon the Bank’s mission to maintain monetary and financial stability. A key element of the Bank’s response has been to enhance the financial system's resilience to climate change by ensuring the firms we supervise manage the risks that can arise, as well as work to understand the impact of climate change on the macro economy.

The Bank’s work in this area is organised through the Climate Hub Division which shapes the development and delivery of the Bank’s climate strategy, including by working with and supporting ‘Climate Spokes’ across the Bank. For example, spokes exist in the PRA supervision, Markets, Monetary Analysis and Research directorates. The Climate Hub Division also leads on a wide-range of analysis and initiatives, for example, the Bank’s involvement in the _Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for_ _Greening the Financial System_. The Climate Hub Division directly reports to the Executive Director Sponsor of the Bank’s climate-related work.

**Job description**

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Climate Project Team. The team leads on a range of different projects across the Bank’s remits, ranging from financial stability, safety and soundness of firms to the impact of climate on the macro economy, providing thought leadership to advance the Bank’s work on climate change. The projects vary in size from short thought pieces to analysis to large projects working with staff from other areas of the Bank. The team is also responsible for upskilling other parts of the Bank, and supporting climate work in other areas (“spokes”) by sharing climate expertise.

Key elements of the job are:
Working closely with the Head of the Climate Project Team, key responsibilities of the role include

2) Lead/contribute to analysis across different projects, working with staff from other areas of the Bank as required.

3) Provide innovative thinking on how to assess the impact of climate change on the Bank’s remits, and build expertise as the work continues to evolve

4) External representation and engagement - engage with academia, industry, and other central banks and regulators to inform the Bank’s work on climate change and communicate our message through meetings and presentations.

5) Support climate spokes across the Bank. This could include supporting the analytical areas and research to integrate climate-related risks into the Bank’s analytical work and/or aspects of the Bank’s international work.

6) Support the Bank's internal and external communications on climate-related issues by supporting senior level engagement and speeches through written and verbal briefing.

**Minimum Essential Criteria**
- An understanding of how climate change impacts the Bank’s objectives for financial and monetary stability
- Experience of leading workstreams - planning and delivering work, building relationships with stakeholders and delivering high quality outputs.
- Ability to work under pressure and flexibly across a broad range of activities and analytical projects, while maintaining a high quality

**Desirable Criteria**
- An understanding of the financial system and how it might be impacted by climate change
- Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking to deliver impactful projects
- Strong verbal and written communication, including the ability to explain complex technical issues accurately and succinctly
- Experience of working with a broad range of stakeholders, preferably including liaising with other central banks, financial regulators or policymaking institutions
- A strong interest in, and commitment to, the Bank's work on responding to climate change.
- Track record of leading and supporting Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and encouraging others to do the same.
