We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Level 2 Apprentice Nursery Assistant to join our team.

Owlets Nursery is situated on the University campus in a modern purpose-built nursery.

The Nursery has 4 big, bright spacious playrooms all of which have their own covered outdoor area which children can play freely indoors or outside. All children have daily access our large, grassed area which surrounds the nursery, no matter what the weather

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Level 2 Apprentice Nursery Assistant to join our team. You must have a keen interest in childcare, and previous experience of caring for children under five is desirable. You must have a sense of fun, be adaptable, enjoy helping children learn through their play experiences and be able to work as part of a team.

You will be part of a caring team providing a safe, secure, happy and enabling environment where every child can learn, develop and grow.

Whilst you are employed by us, you will be trained in all aspects of childcare, child development and children’s learning, both through taught days in college and practical experience in the nursery. We have an experienced team of early years practitioners who will help and guide you through your training.

Main Duties A.

To carry out the duties of a Nursery Assistant:
1. To work towards the completion of Level 2 certificate For the Children’s and Young People’s Workforce

2. To participate in various training programmes in conjunction with the Modern Apprentice Scheme, including completing assignments on time and attending all college sessions and or tutorials.

3. To understand that as part of your training you will be required to move around the nursery playrooms to get experience of caring and teaching all age groups.

4. To adhere to all the nursery policies and procedures and to be aware of and implement the aims and objectives of Owlets to uphold its high standards at all times.

5. To respect the confidentiality of all information received at all times.

6. To ensure the children come first at all times - show a firm commitment to their safety, motivation and stimulation.

7. Be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners and act in a professional and responsible manner in line with the College’s values and aims.

8. To maintain high standards of cleanliness within the nursery, and to follow all Owlets procedures that ensure the health and wellbeing of the children.

9. To play a part in maintaining the high quality of the nursery environment and to ensure you meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development.

10. To work successfully as a member of the nursery team and contribute to the program of activities and learning opportunities offered the children in your care.

11. To participate in the planning and implementation of the curriculum.

12. To welcome new staff and students in a positive and supportive way.

13. Look upon the setting as a “whole” where your help can be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of the children.

14. To be flexible within working practices of the setting. Be prepared to help when needed, including undertaking certain domestic jobs within the setting when necessary, e.g. preparing snack and cleaning of equipment etc.

15. To attend staff meetings and training courses outside of your normal working hours.

16. To greet parents and be available to give feedback on the daily routines of individual children.

17. Ensure the children are collected by someone known to the nursery.

18. To witness/record accidents, incidents, existing injuries, medical needs and any allergies or food intolerance in accordance with Owlets procedures at all times.

B. To ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to.

MANDATORY DUTIES

1. Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults in college.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES To undertake such additional duties as may be reasonably required commensurate with the level of responsibility within Owlets/the College at the initial place of work or any other of the College's sites within the Exeter area and may need to travel overseas. To promote and conduct your professional duties and responsibilities within the parameters of the colleges agreed values and aims. This job description is current at the review date.
