As Head of Grounds, your role is to develop, manage and maintain the grounds and gardens at JCB Golf & Country Club to the highest possible standard.
You will be responsible for supervising and undertaking the maintenance of all common areas, landscaped property surrounds and woodlands within the golf course facility, along with assisting with planting displays in any golf course property when required. Work involves a variety of duties to manage and maintain these areas, ensuring that they are always presented in the best possible condition, whilst adhering to the rules and regulations established for the operation.
The role will report to the Golf Course Manager, advising him/her on a regular basis on the management and upkeep of the grounds and gardens along with supervision and day to day management of the Grounds Team.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- You are responsible for the development of team members, including upskilling and providing regular training.
- Responsible for the care of machinery and the reporting of loss or damage to Supervisor/Head Mechanic.
- Understand the companies’ policies on health and safety and to ensure that all duties performed are carried out with full regard to the safety of the customers, visitors, contractors and other employees; work within the health and safety, COSHH, Risk Assessment and SOP guidelines at all times.
- Ensure that care is always taken to prevent any long-term damage to the turf/landscaped areas.
- Working with the Golf Course Manager to prepare and manage the Grounds department budget.
- Along with adhering to the rules and regulations, proposals and recommendations should be made to enhance the Grounds department.
- Supervises and undertakes all maintenance aspects of grass, shrubs, trees and flower planting as well as landscaping works and woodland clearance within the golf course site and its properties.
- Supervises and participates in the propagation of grass and other plants.
- Any required task to contribute to the workflow and smooth running of the department/organisation.
- You are responsible for the safe and effective use, maintenance and security of the grounds plant and gardening equipment
**Knowledge and Skills**:
- Enhanced knowledge of recreational operations and maintenance work involved.
- Enhanced knowledge of the methods used in the care and maintenance of a high-end facility.
- Enhanced knowledge of the uses and operating methods of the equipment and tools used in turf management and maintenance.
- Enhanced knowledge of turf diseases and the methods and chemicals used to control them.
- Possess good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively.
- Must maintain a positive attitude in all work-related circumstances.
**Experience required**:
- SVQ/NVQ 3 in sports turf maintenance or equivalent
- PA1, PA2 & PA6 favourable
- CS30 & CS31 Chainsaw favourable
- Full UK driving license essential.
- Experience of dealing successfully with customers and demonstrating effective customer care.
