FluoretiQ are developing pioneering rapid diagnostic platforms for bacteria identification which will ensure that patients receive the best antibiotic treatment from day one. For patients, this means faster recovery times and for healthcare providers, this means better patient outcomes and significant cost savings. We are based at Future Space in Bristol with easy access to Bristol Parkway train station and Filton Abbey wood train station.
FluoretiQ is looking for a Microbiologist to join our growing Research Team, dedicated to creating truly revolutionary bacteria identification systems. You should have working knowledge of bacteria characterisation, as well as practical laboratory experience and knowledge of the range of techniques used. You will contribute to the development of our rapid diagnostic test for bacterial infections.
**You Will**
- Perform bacteria characterisation
- Perform experiments involving use of liquid physiological samples
- Maintain detailed documentation of experiments carried out
- Analyse experimental data and produce regular reports in a variety of formats
- Present findings to internal and external stakeholders
- Help develop research projects and support existing projects
- Prepare weekly experimental plans
- Design experimentation in order to build upon the development of FluoretiQ’s technologies
- Conduct research into gene expression profiles of key pathogens
- Collaborate with other diverse scientists and engineers to create, revise and implement technical visions
- Ensure that all laboratory activities comply with Health and Safety guidelines, particularly Biological Safety Regulations and Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
**Who You Are (Interests, Qualifications and Skills)**
- PhD or MSc in a Microbiology or Molecular biology field
- Experienced in bacteria growth and characterisation
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, cloning, viral transduction and transfection.
- Creative thinker with an ability to think outside the box
- Experience with Aseptic technique
- Experience working in a BSL-2 laboratory
- Experience with laboratory procurement
- Familiarity with GLP
- Analytical thinker with good problem-solving skills to overcome technical issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A team player with strong interest in building a career in the Life Science sector
**Desirable**
- 3+ years industry experience within the fields of life sciences, biotech, or medical devices
- Working knowledge of Antibiotic susceptibility testing - MICs, disk diffusion assays, etc.
- Generated genetic knockout bacteria
- Studied glycan-protein interactions
- Assay validation experience
- Quality assurance testing experience
