Band 5 Freedom of Information Officer
On a daily basis you will log and respond to all FOI requests promptly. Logs will be monitored for performance reporting and escalations where necessary. Professional letters will be drafted whilst organising sign-off of requests by relevant staff prior to disclosure. To liaise with the Information Governance Manager and the Communications team to resolve more complex FOI issues. As part of the role you would also be expected to provide support the Head of Information Governance and Health Records in handling internal reviews, complaints and appeals in regard to FOI requests.
The Information Officer plays a key role in delivering the requirements of our Trust under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR). This will include logging and tracking each request, liaising with the relevant managers across the organisation and preparing FOI responses, so that we deliver these within the statutory timeframe.
The Information Officer will develop and present briefing sessions, to ensure all staff involved in the process of answering FOI requests fully understand the process and their part in this.
To help ensure we proactively provide the information our audiences require, the Information Officer will review and update the Trust’s publication scheme, disclosure log and ensure that our intranet and website has relevant, up-to-date and accurate information to support the publication scheme and briefing materials.
The Information Officer also plays a role in promoting good information governance across our hospitals, assisting with the management of information governance training for all our staff, and for the management of the Information Governance Steering Group.
As a member of the Information Governance Department, the Information Officer will help with the preparation and management of patient and public information across our hospitals. The Information Officer will also assist members of the Directorate with the management of communications and engagement materials and events.
Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.
As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.
We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
