**Nature & Scope**

To lead the effective smooth running of the day-to-day finance function. Overall, to ensure the effective financial management of the organisation, by ensuring the highest standards of financial controls and procedures are developed and implemented across the organisation.

The role will include monthly financial reporting to the CEO, quarterly financial reporting to the Governance, Finance and Risk Committee and the annual production of the Trial Balance for auditing purposes. The role will also include the reconciliation and reporting of funding partners such as Sport England, NHS Cheshire & Merseyside, and others.

As a member of the Leader Team, you will be expected to be able to link strategy finance investment to our strategic priorities, and form positive working relationships across the team, and with our Trustees, to ensure our compliance with key statutory and partner lead frameworks (including, but not limited to Tier 3 Code for Sport Governance.)

**Accountabilities (not exhaustive)**

**Financial**
- To manage the Active Cheshire bank account providing regular reports to staff, Board and Finance and Risk subcommittee.
- Development of process invoicing and payment procedures (including staff payments).
- Processing transactions and helping resolve any related issues.
- Assessment of current accounting software (QuickBooks) and recommendations for future software solutions.
- To manage the financial aspects of contracts and other arrangements with service contractors, funders and partners ensuring accurate and timely reporting e.g. completing claim forms, submitting financial returns and reports.
- Provide regular, timely and accurate financial reports to the Board and sub-committees.
- Assist the CEO and budget holders with the setting of annual and project budgets.
- Provide for approval, financial annual and three-year financial forecasts.
- In depth understanding of prepayments, accruals and deferrals.
- To prepare the annual statutory return and accounts in accordance with company and charity commission requirements and the applicable financial management framework.
- Manage the company’s approach to financial risk bringing to the early attention of the CEO, Board or relevant sub committees, any matters of concern in relation to the Company’s financial position.
- Develop and maintain a robust system of internal controls together with an annual process to review and assess that these controls are operating effectively.
- Ensure office and other insurance and utility contracts are economic and meet organisational requirements.
- Manage any VAT and other tax requirements (including Partial Exemption) and ensure all requirements are complied with and returns completed on time and recorded accurately in the financial records.
- Manage monthly salary payments and ensure payments to staff / HMRC / pension providers are completed on time and recorded accurately in the financial records.
- Monitor and process expenses and co-ordinate the management of company credit cards.
- Support business development and funding bids.
- Prepare regular cash flow forecasts to manage our liquidity and ensure that any excess funds are appropriately invested.

**Compliance & Leadership**
- Proactively contribute to the Leadership Team and support the development of the teams financial understand and reporting.
- Lead the Companies compliance with all regulatory and statutory financial standards, including Charities SORP and FRS102.
- Lead the organisation through the process to successfully gaining the Tier 3 Code for Sport Governance and Equality in Sport accreditation.

**Relationships**

You will build positive relationships within and beyond Active Cheshire. Key internal relationships include those with the CEO and Leadership Team, the Governance, Finance and Risk Committee, and the Board of Trustees. Additionally, you will develop excellent relationships with Sport England Officers and officers from other funders, Accountants and other professionals supporting our organisation.
