**Job description**:
The Director General’s office sits at the heart of the Aviation, Maritime & Security Group. This exciting and diverse group covers a variety of areas including:

- Aviation policy including airports, environment, consumer protection, security and safety
- Maritime policy including infrastructure, environment, security and trade
- Security and safety of the transport network
- International negotiations with other governments and international transport organisations

You will have the exciting opportunity to establish the new Portfolio Management Office (PMO) within the DG’s Office which is a fast-paced and dynamic environment where you will have the opportunity to be part of a small but highly effective team supporting AMS Group to deliver against some of the Government’s highest priorities. The new PMO will create and implement a set of portfolio management principles, consolidate the management of risks and milestones and how they are linked to DfT’s strategic objectives, centralise and improve workforce planning (including succession planning and staff capability), develop a Group comms strategy to create a cohesive culture and help implement a set of actions to promote diversity and inclusion across the Group.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Leading on the design and maintenance of key management tools that support the effective and efficient running of a DG’s Office.
- Providing project delivery expertise to all Directorates, helping them to deliver more effectively and ensuring ongoing strategic alignment to DfT and Government objectives.
- Demonstrating strong stakeholder relationship building skills as the PMO works to promote consistent corporate functions across the Group and ensure priority outcomes for AMS are delivered to tight timescales and standards of quality.
- Designing and managing effective portfolio governance and reporting structures to increase transparency and visibility maintain a single source of truth across the whole Group, supporting high-level decision making while driving accountability.
- Leading on the implementation of the strategy for ensuring AMS delivers everything necessary at a local level to contribute to delivery of the Department’s aims as set out in the Race Action Plan.

**About you**:
You will be someone who naturally enjoys working collaboratively with different business areas and likes the challenge of influencing others to achieve business outcomes. You can build rapport quickly with both internal and external stakeholders which enables you to build solid working relationships.

We are looking for someone who is proactive in seeking resolutions and can resolve issues that arise through their quick thinking.

Excellent organisational skills are required and you will be able to manage and filter workflow as well as organise and prioritise your work to maximise productivity and achieve all deadlines. You will be highly adaptable and flexible, adjusting to the requirements of the role.

**Additional Information**:
A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

Travel to other DfT offices may be required on a quarterly basis.
