**Job summary**:
We are looking for an experienced graphic designer with a deep understanding of content creation for social media.

The new Senior Graphic Designer will work closely with the Head of Social Media and Digital Content to build the department’s digital communications capability and set an example for the rest of Whitehall.

They will be able to expertly distil complex policy into engaging graphical and animated content that cuts through to the public. You will be the first port of call when it comes to the delivery of motion graphics, design solutions and art-work that tells our story to the public.

Your primary focus will be on content creation across our social media channels, but you can also expect to provide wider design solutions to the department, for example, working with our agency partners on marketing campaigns and establishing our internal brand guidelines.

This is a managerial role within the Digital Content Team and comes with line management responsibility for one Graphic Designer. The Senior Graphic Designer will be responsible for the overall standard of design output for the department.

This is a permanent, full time position.

**Job description**:
**Responsibilities**:

- First port of call for all the department’s design needs including graphics and animated content, with a strong focus on social media output.
- Work closely with policy teams and the wider communications directorate to create engaging content around major policy announcements.
- Establish and enforce the department’s brand guidelines.
- Work closely with video team to consistently deliver engaging content on all communications channels.
- Create and deliver non-video social media content.
- Produce clear evaluation on content performance and act on insights to improve engagement.
- Management responsibilities for one graphic designer.
- Work closely with the wider media team to use social media channels to shape the news agenda.

**Person specification**:

- We are looking for an experienced, creative graphic designer who has a track record of delivering creative content for social media.
- You will be the departments go-to person for design, establish its visual identity and be its chief brand-protector.
- You will have management experience and be able to prioritise work for yourself and at least one other graphic designer.
- You will be an innovator, able to take complex policy and data and turn it into engaging graphical and animated content that cuts through to the public.
- You will be an expert creator of graphics and animated content.
