The Free Trade Agreement Utilisation (FTAU) team is a multidisciplinary team created to support exporters to seize the benefits of new Free Trade Agreements. Through policy expertise and knowledge of export support, the FTAU team will help ensure exporters are fully equipped to take advantage of new global opportunities.

The successful applicant will play a vital role within the FTAU team, developing a deep understanding of a portfolio of FTAs to help ensure the department utilises each agreement to its full potential. This role will require you to develop knowledge on a range of cross-cutting policy areas and different global markets, as well as helping to translate complex policy areas into business-facing guidance and explainers.

The role will also involve G2G collaboration, where you will be required to build and maintain a network of contacts in partner governments to support the deepening of the UK’s trade relationships post-agreement. The role may require some periods of overseas travel, as well as occasional meetings outside of normal working hours to accommodate for time differences where required.

**Job description**:

- Policy: strong understanding of trade policy, to support the translation of FTAs into business-facing language.
- Project Management: proactively maintain a portfolio of FTAs, delivering a range of utilisation projects at different stages of the FTA lifecycle.
- Relationship Management: support a series of relationships with teams across DIT involved in FTAs, as well as with government counterparts in countries where the UK has an FTA.
- Problem Solving: help to coordinate the work of multi-disciplinary, cross-DIT and cross-government teams to ensure DIT and HMG are mobilised to support the full utilisation of FTAs.
- Leadership: take active leadership roles within and on behalf of the team, on a wide range of different projects.

Upskilling: commitment to continuous professional development to ensure knowledge of FTAs and their implications remain current.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

**Person specification**:
**Essential Criteria**
- You have a foundational level of knowledge on trade policy and are familiar with most of the main trade terminology.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills, and can communicate with a range of different stakeholders and audiences.
- You have strong organisational and planning skills and are comfortable managing and balancing competing priorities.
- You have strong analytical skills, and are able to identify a problem and consider various options, making a recommendation which takes into account the broader context of your work.
- You are a strong leader and team player who is flexible and proactive and can work across organisational boundaries.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Strong knowledge of particular trade policy issues, including, but not limited to, customs, rules of origin, mobility, ATA carnets, VAT etc.
- Experience and/or understanding of UK export policy and DIT’s export-facing services.
- Ability to quickly alter your approach to delivery in a fast-paced environment and make decisions with autonomy.
- Working in a policy or strategy environment, which requires problem solving with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience of stakeholder management.
