**Butchers Apprentice position.**

This position is a Two year course with the opportunity of a full time position after completing the course.

The training will lead to an NVQ level 2 in butchery.

Hours

Daily hours Monday to Friday 6am to 2pm. Overtime is compulsory when required.

Saturday mornings start at Easter to end of September and are paid at an overtime rate.

The average working week is 35 hours plus overtime.

Tea Breaks

9.30am to 10am and 12noon to 12.30pm.

Rates of pay.

Above the minimum wage. According to your age and experience.

Five weeks holiday entitlement (Restricted holidays through busy periods.)

Throughout the summer we regard bank holidays as normal working days.

Working Environment.

You will be working in a modern refrigerated butchers / meat cutting plant as part of a family run business.

You will be working in a close knit environment where everybody helps everybody.

All protective clothing will be provided.

Training

NVQ level 2 training is held in house.

You will be given full training on all aspects of the work involved.

You will be expected to work on your own as soon as we are satisfied

That you are able to do the work properly and safely.

Training is ongoing and will continue throughout the year.

Daily Duties.

You will be expected to show a willingness to learn and be prepared to adapt to changes as required.

Your duties will include.

Operating a mincer, vacuum packer, sausage filler, unloading Lorries assisting the butchers in their day to day work.

Record keeping and stock rotation.

You will be expected to maintain a high level of hygiene.

**This will involve a high level of day to day cleaning duties.**

Overview.

This vacancy will suit a person with good all round practical skills and common sense.

A background of catering skills could be an advantage.

This is a short overview of the work involved.

This is physical work that does require a reasonable level of fitness.

Our expectations is for a person to turn up on time do a day’s work and go home.

We operate a three strikes rule on attendance and time keeping.
