Our newly built practice in Alexandra Palace will open in summer 2024 and provide a much-needed professional veterinary service to the community, and we are recruiting staff to work in our new centre. **About the Role**
The role of a Veterinary Care Assistant is critical to the smooth running of the busy small animal practice. This is a practical hands-on role where you will provide a high standard of pet care and wellbeing and support the veterinary team. You will be responsible for caring for animals and providing a hygienic environment. You will also provide updates to clients on in-patients via our app, and undertake some reception duties as part of the role. Our staff cover the hours of Monday to Friday 8:30am-7pm and Sundays 10am-2pm on a shift pattern. This is an excellent starting position if you want to work in a Veterinary Practice.

**Person Specification**
You will have experience in working in a veterinary setting or animal welfare or rescue centre. You will have or be working towards a qualification in animal care. We are seeking someone with a positive and helpful attitude with good communication skills. And of course, you must love working with animals. You will also be friendly and polite as you will interact with the team, suppliers and clients. Working in an independent practice means that you will be working as part of a fantastic team where self-starters will thrive in the role. An excellent attendance and punctuality record is critical. You must be able to work at Finchley and Alexandra Palace locations.

**Knowledge And Skills**
- Previous experience in a veterinary setting or rescue centre
- Hands-on experience caring for cats and dogs; other animals advantageous
- High standard of spoken English and confidence in reading and understanding business English
- Excellent people/customer service skills
- Empathetic yet resilient
- Hold 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above to include Maths, English Language and a Science
- Hold or be studying for qualifications such as Veterinary Care Assistant Level 2 Diploma or equivalent, Veterinary Care Assistant Certificate, Animal Nursing Assistant Award or National Diploma in Animal Care.

**Core Duties**
- General care of animals (small animals and exotics), working patiently and compassionately
- Assisting veterinary surgeons in consultations, for example with animal handling and weighing
- Providing a comfortable and stress-free inpatient environment by tending to the animals
- Cleaning enclosures and feeding and tending to inpatients
- Assisting the veterinary and nursing team with prescriptions and making up surgical packs
- Ordering stock
- Relay appropriate information to/from clients to veterinary surgeons/nurses and/or management
- Under guidance you can expect to be handling patients for procedures, assisting with diagnostic tests, and sending tests for analysis
- Setting up and clearing down theatre for surgical procedures.
- Cleaning and tidying to ensure the practices look at their best
