**Job description**:
Transport is fundamental to our society. A safe, secure, efficient and reliable transport system is something that we all depend upon. It is vital for supporting a strong, productive economy and the jobs and homes people need. Therefore, it is important that every employee working within Department for Transport (DfT) Group feels valued and recognised for their contribution.

As DfT Group Reward lead, you will bring together the DfT Group, comprised of the DfT core department and our four executive agencies Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). You will develop and deliver our reward strategy, policies and interventions to ensure that we can attract and retain the skills and capabilities needed to drive our many organisational priorities.

Reward is one of the highest-profile parts of the DfT HR function. What you and your team will do will impact every employee across our five organisations. It is also where we will undoubtedly see our most complex, varied challenges over the coming years.

You will directly manage a friendly, fun, high-performing team of six people and lead the reward lead community across the DfT Group. With over 16,000 employees across the Group and a total pay bill of over £700 million this is a role where you will have plenty of autonomy and be empowered to make a difference.

You will directly manage a friendly, professional and busy team of three and have opportunities to lead and collaborate with the reward leads in our executive agencies on a diverse range of complex Reward projects and issues.

**Person specification**:
**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Providing expert reward advice and recommendations to a range of colleagues and stakeholders within the core department and executive agencies, including senior leaders, on a variety of complex reward matters.
- Working closely with profession capability leads, HRBPs and the business to understand competing business needs/priorities and reflect them in both pay and non-pay based reward solutions.
- Collaborating closely with another Grade 7 in the Reward team to jointly lead on the development, modelling, negotiation and implementation of two annual pay awards (delegated and Government Car Service drivers) aligned with our DfT Group reward priorities. This key deliverable will be supported by the Group Head of Reward.
- Leading, maintaining the motivation and building reward capability of a small team of three who provide a wide range of reward deliverables, including but not limited to overseeing various reward policies and processes.
- Providing reward technical leadership on a range of Reward projects and ensuring our initiatives are modelled and costed appropriately and that they fall within civil service pay policy and HM Treasury guidelines.
- Advising and influencing of the development of various reward policies, ensuring that they deliver the right outcomes for our people and business, reflect good practice and are compliant with latest employment law developments.
- Oversee the delivery and quality assurance of all internal and external reward data reporting.
- Networking across civil service departments and public sector organisations at formal and informal levels, ensuring that DfT remains close to civil service people and reward strategy and learns from others.

Please see the attached Role Profile for further detail on the duties and responsibilities of this role.

This role is available to individuals who wish to be spending their office time in Birmingham, Hastings, Leeds, London or Swansea, and we would also expect the individual to be willing to occasionally travel to visit our other other offices, including those of our executive agencies.
