Catering Supervisor

The Facilities Department has a wide remit within University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, with overarching responsibility for the Catering Department to ensure a sufficient service is delivered to our patients. Manage food safety and hygiene standards within the department and ensure effective implementation of the Food Safety Policy Ensure correct de-canting, labelling, dating and storage of frozen and chilled products Preparation and assembly of Patient Salads and Sandwiches including hospitality functions Assist in the audit process ensuring that the kitchen passes all internal audits and EHO audits. Ensure all record keeping and documentation is completed in a systematic and timely manner Provide an efficient catering service to patients within the Trust to the level stated in the Service Level specification. Ensure a friendly, efficient, and courteous service is provided to both internal and external customers demonstrating high standards of customer service at all times Supervise the day-to-day work of a group of patient catering staff within the off-site kitchen to ensure they meet the required standards Liaise with Ward Housekeepers, Ward Hostesses, other staff, patient catering stores and ward staff as necessary to ensure the efficient running of the service Ensure food safety and hygiene standards are maintained within the department and ensure effective implementation of the Assured Safe Catering System Ensure all record keeping and documentation is completed in a systematic and timely manner Monitor and maintain portion control within the off-site kitchen Monitor food wastage within the Kitchen Monitor and maintain food presentation to the required standard within the external Kitchen Ensure efficient operation of the patient catering service in the off site Kitchen for each shift escalating issues to the Catering Manager if necessary To complete ad hoc food orders from time to time To ensure health and safety standards are maintained in the department and ensure effective implementation of health and safety policies and procedures.
To actively encourage a safety culture To monitor maintenance standards within the department and where necessary liaise with the Catering Manager to arrange repairs To provide on the job and skills training to new and less experienced members of the team for them to fulfil their job role To monitor the performance of, and where necessary, coach less experienced members of the team to ensure standards are maintained To monitor and record all absence, carrying return to work interviews To assist in menu planning and service development within the Patient Catering Department To be responsible for own personal development and attend all company training as required To provide flexible cover for other team members when required To promote effective communication throughout the department Undertake any ad-hoc duties as prescribed by Manager and within scope of skill and capability.
