Wessex Clinical Genetics Service is delighted to be recruiting to the role of Genomics Associate. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and highly skilled individual who has an interest in genomics and ideally prior knowledge of the 100,000 Genomes Project and the national plans for mainstreaming genomic medicine.
NHS genetic services are undergoing radical changes as we move to a national genomic medicine service and transform care for people with rare diseases and cancer. You will work with a high level of autonomy, taking delegated responsibility from the Lynch syndrome Genomics Nurse/Genetic Counsellor. This really is an exciting time to be involved in genetics and genomic medicine.
The post is closely allied to the Wessex Cancer Alliance and covers a population of over 3 million in the Wessex region
Normal working days are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some flexibility to meet service requirements.

**What you’ll do**:
1. Provide and develop a high quality service to facilitate the offer of whole genome sequencing and the national Lynch syndrome project to eligible patients
2. This post will involve engagement with health professionals throughout a variety of clinical disciplines to support these health professionals who are identifying patients who may benefit from whole genome sequencing
3. Support the completion of the 1000,000 Genomes project
4. Coordinate and run participant clinics alongside medical services for consent and family liaison for genomic testing, ensuring that families are fully supported emotionally and, if needed referral to other services
5. Focus in ensuring all Trusts across the Wessex region are equally engaged and equally served.
**What we’re looking for**:
You will have an interest in and understanding of genetics and ideally some knowledge of the 100,000 Genomes project. This is an autonomous role and you willbe responsible for your own patient caseload, with support from the Lynch Syndrome Genomics Nurse/Genetic Counsellor.
You will also be expected to participate in research and audit and support the Lynch Syndrome Genomics Nurse/Genetic Counsellor with teaching and education.
