The Superintendent Pharmacist is responsible for the delivery of high quality patient care, by ensuring compliance with statutory and professional requirements of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) 'Standards for Pharmacy Professionals’.

This includes, but is not limited to, the appropriate sale and supply of medicines to patients, as well as to conduct and oversee applicable patient services within the community.

Key Responsibilities

1. Appropriate Sale and Supply of Medicines
- To ensure the pharmacy Record is maintained at all times and in accordance with the Medicines (Pharmacies) (Responsible Pharmacist) Regulations 2008.
- To store medicines in appropriate conditions, maintain temperature logs, and ensure procedures are in place for safe disposal of returned or expired medicines.
- To oversee and manage Controlled Drugs including the principles outlined in the DH publication the Safer Management of Controlled Drugs and to maintain accurate record-keeping and registration.
- Management of appropriate levels of stock.

2. Develop and improve community services
- Measurable growth of NHS essential, advanced and enhanced services to customers.
- Development of privately funded community services in the community pharmacy setting.

3. Adherence to relevant regulations
- To ensure that prescription records are maintained in accordance with GPhC and legal requirements.
- To document, maintain and communicate effective, efficient safe working practices and standard operating procedures as required by the GPhC.

4. Training
- Provide clinical and professional leadership to all pharmacy staff.
- To monitor, assess and oversee the training and competencies of pharmacy staff in accordance with the Code of Ethics and requirements of the GPhC.

5. Business Growth
- To contribute to the efficient running and profitability of the pharmacy by monitoring and auditing medicines expenditure and by introducing new or revised working practices for all aspects of purchasing and the safe management of medicines.
- Self-motivated individual with high levels of attention to detail.
- Professional, ethical and committed to providing excellent patient and customer care.
- Excellent communication skills, confidence at networking with customers and key stakeholders.
- Ability to work with a flexible and agile approach.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- A UK qualified, registered Pharmacist with a valid GPhC Number.
- Prescribing Pharmacist Licence (preferable).
- A solid understanding of Pharmacy Laws and Regulations.
- Experience with working with pharmacy related software.
- 5 years experience of working in a community pharmacy.
- Understanding of NHS pharmacy funding and how to maximise

profit through the achievement of targets.
