**Temporary Housing Options Advisor - Homelessness Prevention**

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To provide an advice service to vulnerable homeless clients, clients threatened with homelessness, tenants and those in temporary accommodation.
- Liaise with the landlords, statutory and voluntary agencies to identify clients who need particular advice, support and help.
- Provide a range of advice to clients, including help with (or signposting to) budgeting, mediating, benefits advice, help to understand and keep to tenancy conditions, and help to settle in to local networks and to facilitate support from other agencies.
- Undertake formal Homeless decisions with reference to the current legislation and Code of Guidance
- Establish and maintain effective links with other relevant agencies, for example Adult Social Services, Connexions, Children’s Services including Education, voluntary agencies and the Health Authority as appropriate, to co
- ordinate support services for clients.
- Assist with training on advice and the prevention of homelessness to other staff and other agencies and partners.
- Assist in the assessment of need for housing and provision for people requiring temporary and permanent housing, including consultation with service users.
- Ensure customers who need support to access services, are assisted, e.g. by arranging translators to be present during interviews, arranging for letters, S184 notification letters and other material to be translated into appropriate language, Braille, etc.
- Provide information, advice and act as an advocate for clients wishing to access temporary or permanent accommodation.
- Assist in effective service delivery and monitoring.
- Take a proactive role in your own learning and development by seeking and acting on feedback on your performance.
- Support the development of others by passing on skills and knowledge and assisting with ‘on the job’ training as required.

**Skills & Experience**:

- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Relevant experience in the area of housing advice, homeless prevention or homeless assessment.
- Experience in general administration.
- Good communication skills, written and verbal.
- Ability to work as part of a team and ability to work unsupervised, using own initiative.
- Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
