**About us**

Beannachar Camphill Community is Located on a beautiful estate only two miles from Aberdeen city, it provides a therapeutic and supportive space that transforms the lives of young adults with additional support and complex needs. At Beannachar we strive to create and provide a warm, welcoming and secure home life in a ‘House Community’.

**Cook**

The Cook will be solely responsible in producing a home cooked mid-day meal and supper for approximately 12 people, Thursday and Friday, using locally sourced fresh produce. They will have responsibility for the day to day running of the kitchen and the delivery of quality meals to the residents and staff. Tasks will include food ordering and stock control, menu planning, accommodating special dietary needs, a requirement for rigorous cleanliness and infection control procedures, guiding and supporting a volunteer support worker either alone, or alongside a person with learning disabilities will be required.

Each House Community has 5 or 6 students. The house is also home to a team of international volunteers who live with and support the students in everyday life, work, and leisure.

The role will include ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen and other areas of the house to specified cleaning standards e.g Dining Room and Communal areas.

**QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE**

**Essential Requirements**

Satisfactory computer skills, and experience in ordering food/kitchen supplies

Ability to produce simple but creative and well-presented dishes.

Willing and able to clean to National Cleaning Specifications.

Ability to take initiative.

Able to work with others from varied cultural / spiritual backgrounds.

Good communication skills.

Open to feedback and able to respond to residents’ requests and preferences.

Ability to guide and direct others.

A basic knowledge of dietary needs.

“Cook Safe” - Food Standards Scotland

Cooking or catering for small groups.

**Desirable Requirements**

Experience in online ordering of food/kitchen supplies

Understanding nutritional needs of people.

Understanding of swallowing difficulties and food textures.

Understanding and or experience of the needs of young adults with autism and learning disabilities.

Experience as a cook in a busy kitchen, day service or care home.

Major Tasks:

- To promote and be responsible for the safety and welfare of all those living and working in the household and/or workshop in accordance with Beannachar’s Health and Safety Policy.
- To maintain the required records.
- To abide by Beannachar’s Policies and Procedures at all times.
- If required to participate in House and General Staff Meetings.
- To attend training courses as required.
- To undertake any other tasks in Beannachar as requested by the Beannachar Management Group by mutual agreement.
