Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations:

- Adhere to Policies and Procedures
- Comply with the Staff Handbook

- Instruct, motivate and encourage staff to work effectively
- Open communication within the teams
- Professionalism at all times
- Approach and professional body language at all times
- Ensure positive advice and support is given to colleagues
- No favouritism with children, parents or staff
- Offer constructive criticism in a professional manner
- Seek management advice to deploy staff and resources effectively, maintaining ratios in your room whilst supporting other rooms where needed
- Ensure you follow the dress code as set out in the Staff Code of Conduct
- Check the main office diary on a regular basis

- Support each other’s strengths and weaknesses
- Refrain from unrelated work conversations during work hours

Registers - Children and Staff:

- Mark registers each morning and afternoon
- Inform the office of any absent children each day by 12 noon if there hasn’t been any contact made by parents. Check the main office diary in case the absence has already been recorded by the office
- The ‘off-site book’ must be signed each time you leave and re-enter the building

Personal Physical Care of Children:

- Assist in nappy changing
- Assist children in toileting
- Assist individual children to acquire dressing skills
- Comfort children and deal with accidents
- Supervise and control children at all times, both indoors and outdoors
- Ensure children are clean and tidy at all times

Personal Needs of and Services for Children:

- Ensure each child is treated as an individual and that favouritism does not occur in your group
- Maintain a good relationship and communicate with children
- Choose appropriate books and read stories to your group of children
- Organise Children’s Interests and weekly planning accordingly
- Differentiate resources and facilities for all children according to their individual developmental
- Develop skills and confidence in shy or withdrawn children in your group

Records and Reports:

- Support each other if a key worker requires additional support
- Maintain records and reports for all key children and delegate/ask for support when necessary
- Evidence Me: Enter judgements and input data when required
- Plan with your colleague’s future activities and learning opportunities

Breakfast, Lunch and Tea - Mealtimes:

- Supervise mealtimes and model good practice with the children
- Check quantities of food and drink given to children are suitable
- Ensure you sit with and encourage children to eat
- Follow children’s dietary requirements
- Take note if any child has not eaten or drunk anything at a mealtime
- Clear tables and floor and organise the classroom for the next session/sleep time
- Supervise children at mealtimes and encourage development of good table manners

New Children:

- Greet and reassure parents during the first few visits
- Notify parents with all information regarding food, sleep and settling in where applicable

Existing Children:

- Prepare children to move into new groups during the transition period
