**Job summary**:
North England Forest District has a complement of 132 staff who care for 61,000 hectares of forest and 25,000 hectares of open land. Annual timber production is 550,000 m3 and there is a planting programme in excess of 3 million trees a year.

The District has 45 SSSIs totalling over 10,000 ha and is a major contributor to local and national biodiversity. The District has four visitor centres at Grizedale, Whinlatter, Kielder and Hamsterley. The public forest estate in North England District attracts over one million visits per annum.

Rothbury Beat is comprised of 22 Woodlands ranging in size from 100-3500Ha, with a wide variety of conifer and broadleaf species. All areas are managed for multi-purpose objectives determined by their individual character and location. A number of the woodland blocks are within the Northumberland National Park.

The Beat has an annual restocking programme of around 80 hectares and a timber harvesting programme of around 70,000m3 each year from clear felling, thinning and the management of woodlands for continuous cover. Following Storm Arwen, the beat has an increased harvesting programme as operations are underway to recover significant quantities of windblown timber.
