**Main Purpose of the Job**:To support our growing membership in accessing socially inclusive activities and assisting in the day to day running of the group and the delivery of activities

**About the Monday Club Leicestershire**

The Monday Club began in 1997 and was started by a group of parents who had adult children in their late teens and early adulthood with a diagnosis of Asperger syndrome, with support from interested professionals. The group secured funding for a ten week pilot for ten members that proved very successful.
The pilot programme enabled the Project to access further funding, which led to the Monday Club being jointly funded by Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council. Over the years the number of members and range of activities has grown. From 2005 onwards, the Project has grown from a small, voluntary project to a professionally run organisation currently employing 4 paid members of staff.

The Club moved in October 2009 to a new base close to the city centre, at the Peepul Centre in Belgrave,, which provided the club with a safe open plan environment from which to deliver our service. We currently offer 45 sessions a year grouped in blocks of 10 sessions with 3 activities offered at each session and 5 other special events a year. The Project provides around 30 spaces for each session. The membership for the club currently stands at over 150 members.

The Club also provides activities on alternate Wednesday evenings that are based in the community for the more confident members of the Club. These activities are requested by Club members and have ranged from bowling, a meal out to less expensive activities in response to recognition by members of budgeting requirements. We also offer regular weekly social skills activities to enable our members to increase their confidence and capability in social situations.

**Aim of the project**

The Monday Club is a social inclusion project that supports individuals aged 18 and over who have a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome. We are based at the Peepul Centre, Leicester and we meet regularly on
Monday evenings from 7pm until 9pm. We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for adults with
Asperger syndrome where they can socialise, build friendships and expand their social and living skills through the variety of activities we provide. We encourage all members to develop to their full individual potential and actively encourage and support members to take responsibility for organising their own activities within the Club and in the wider community.

**Specific Responsibilities**

Assist with the arrangements for the day to day running of the Social Club for Adults with Asperger
Syndrome.

In the absence of the Project manager, take a lead in the delivery of the activities that take place in the club.

Help maintain a positive and relaxing atmosphere for the members of the club.

Advocate for the members in areas of difficulty or misunderstanding that may occur especially where activities take place in the wider community.

Ensure the safety of individuals accessing the service whilst at the project or whilst engaged in project activities in the wider community.

Work to safeguard and promote the welfare of service users

Contribute to the planning and preparation of activities for the club.

Assist in the preparation and distribution of information pertaining to the club.

Accept delegated responsibility for carrying out specific duties in support of the Monday Club.

**Confidentiality**

Maintain confidentiality for all areas of work related to the Club, its members, its staff and its work. The nature of the work entrusts the post holder with confidential information about people with autism, their families/carers and staff. It may be necessary to discuss individuals with their carers or other agencies on a need-to-know basis. Any inappropriate breach of confidentiality will constitute gross misconduct.

**General Responsibilities**

To promote good relationships with partner agencies, local businesses and the general public in order to present a positive image of the club and win increased support for its work.

To ensure that your conduct within the work setting and outside does not conflict with the expectations of the group.

To actively support the policies of the Monday Club including ‘Equal Opportunities’.

Attendance at meetings and training courses as required.
