Nottingham, United Kingdom Hawthorne Nursing Home Full time

Ability to work with wood and make basic repairs (Hang doors)

Ability to undertake straightforward plumbing repairs or installations (such as change a tap/repair a small leak) - if not qualified to undertake more (see right column)

Ability to paint and decorate (High standard)

Ability to attend to straightforward gardening and ground maintenance (such as paving slabs or potting plants) (clean gutter and repair)

Ability to get on with others and to be able to communicate effectively and proficiently

Able to organise own work, receive instruction and communicate progress or concerns

To maintain the environment of the Home and surrounding grounds to a high standard of décor and repair.

To maintain, by means of repair and service, all specified equipment or apparatus within the Home or surrounding ground space, and ensure compliance with all current safety requirements and legislation.

To account to the Home Manager or the Senior Person on duty on work undertaken, progress and concerns.

To work in accordance to health and safety requirements at all times.

To supply own tools necessary for the role and to be responsible for the safety of these tools whilst on the premises.

To act in a professional, respectful and courteous manner at all times when on duty or on the premises.

To notify the most senior person on duty (normally the Home Manager) on arrival to and departure from work.

Organisation of work

The Maintenance Person (post holder) will inform and/or forewarn staff or anyone else in the premises of any work which may involve disruption, hazards or inconvenience (including noise such as drilling or hammering etc).

The post holder will be responsible for the safety of any tools used in the process of his/her work or work being undertaken (such as loose tiling or exposed wiring).

The post holder will be responsible for any clearing or tidying of work following completion of work

General aspects of the maintenance of equipment or apparatus

To maintain and service any items as required by the Home Manager - with the exceptions of any equipment or apparatus to which the post holder is not trained or qualified to undertake repairs or servicing on.

It is the responsibility of the post holder to only undertake works for which they are competent in doing.

Décor

To undertake routine painting or wallpapering and decorative upgrades as required or requested.

To undertake routine repairs to walls, doors, ceilings or flooring as required or requested.

To erect or take down fixtures or fittings as required or requested.

To lay carpets/floor coverings as required or requested.

To clean windows as required.

Plumbing

To undertake all routine water testing and to maintain a log of same as required or requested.

To undertake plumbing repairs or modifications to plumbing as required or requested (this will normally include replacement of taps, sinks, toilet cisterns etc).

Electrical

To undertake all minor repairs (this will normally include replacing light bulbs or fittings /fuses/plugs).

Grounds maintenance

To maintain lawns, shrubberies, hedges, small trees and garden beds and keep in good order.

To maintain and repair garden equipment or apparatus.

Fire prevention and nurse call systems

To routinely test fire alarm and nurse call alarm systems, maintain a log of such and report any concerns immediately.

All other equipment or apparatus

To maintain and service wheelchairs and non-electrical mobility aids.

To maintain and service other items not included above as required or requested.

Health and safety requirements

To observe all requirements relating to the Health and Safety at Work Act.

To observe all requirements relating to CoSHH and moving and handling regulations, safe use of equipment and safe use and storage of tools.

To report accidents to the Person-in-Charge.

Security

To ensure the security of the premises is maintained at all times.

To ensure any key-coded access or exit systems are maintained and key-codes changed on a regular basis (i.e. monthly or as and when staff leave the employment of the Home.

‘Out of hours’ arrangements

There may be a requirement to be on-call. Such arrangements will be made through negotiation with the Home Manager. However, it is an expectation that attendance at the Home may be necessary outside of normal working hours and the post holder must acquiesce to reasonable requests made - particularly in relation to the health and safety of people using the Home, employees of the Home and the security of the Home.

Tools and equipment
- Must have own tools.

Other Homes

It may be required for the post holder to work in other Homes as required. For this purpose, travel cost will be reimbursed.
