**Role**:
To provide high quality play experiences for the young people attending the service in 3 main areas:

- Quality of care and support of our young people and families
- Quality of environment and use of resources
- Quality of staffing and personal development

The play worker will work under direction of the supervisor and management and in partnership with other staff members.

**Key tasks**:

- **Quality of care and support of young people and families.**:

- Support young people in exploring their play providing stimulating opportunities throughout the play session.
- Listen to our young people and families; they need a fresh, friendly face and someone to ask them how their day went. Talk with each of them as often as possible and genuinely care about their responses. Maintain a positive attitude in your work and interaction with other staff and children.
- Treat all people and property with respect.
- Serve and clean up breakfast/snack daily. Tables are to be cleaned every day with the supplies provided. Clean up areas used by the service and sweep floors daily.
- Remember we are here to have fun. Don’t put children in a situation they are set to fail at.
- SMILE Children will react to your leadership and your mood, so keep it positive.
- Ensure each child feels happy, safe and secure, allowing them to socialize and develop freely in a play centered environment.
- Encourage children to take responsibility for themselves and their actions
- Support a range of activities which meets the needs of each child, promoting their physical, intellectual, emotional and social development, enabling them to become confident, independent, responsible and co-operative individuals.
- **Quality of environment and use of resources**:

- Set a positive example for the young people in the service by following the rules for the service. If adults follow the rules, children will follow them also. Set a good example for children to follow.
- A staff member must be always present with children when they are in the service. Children must not enter any classrooms at any time.
- Offer an inclusive service, accessible to all children in the community
- **Quality of staffing and personal development**:

- Always respect the supervisor’s requirements, ask for help if needed.
- Ensure all paperwork (planning, record keeping, documentation) is completed in the appropriate time scale.
- Read all information sent to you in a timely manner. Keep it for future reference if necessary. Be responsible about your use of time.
- Maintain open lines of communication with other staff as well as parents and guardians. Let the supervisor know about supply needs and other matters in a timely manner.
- Follow all guidelines contained in the Staff Handbook. Know the rules and enforce them with kindness and consistency. Always treat children with kindness and respect.
- Work in partnership with parents and other professionals to provide high quality play and care.
- Review and evaluate our services to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of children in our care and those of their parents/carers

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 15-16 per week

**Salary**: £9.50-£10.42 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Johnstone: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- Nursery: 1 year (preferred)
- Childcare: 1 year (preferred)
- Management: 1 year (preferred)
