Handyperson

**The successful applicant will have suitable experience in a range of handyperson skills. We are seeking an individual who can maintain our working environment confidently and with accuracy to ensure the safety of our staff and visitors by maintaining site structures, environment, fittings and fixtures.**

Windmill Community Gardens Margate aims to support people to learn about food growing, cooking and outdoor activities. The charity has a community garden and a market garden of one acre each. We grow, sell and share chemical free produce on a co-produced basis with members of the local community.

**Job Purpose**:To ensure the safety of staff and visitors by maintaining site structures, grounds, fittings and fixtures in good condition, using a maintenance schedule for completion.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Grounds **_To maintain by
- 1. removing debris from gutters and flat roofs
- 2. disposing of refuse and surplus items
- 3. carrying out repairs and painting of structures, guttering, doors, fences, windows, and paths
- 4. maintaining garden furniture
- 5. completing gardening tasks when required: planters, lawns, shrubs and hedges
- **Maintenance**_ upkeep of the premises and facilities by performing
- 6. minor repairs
- 7. responding to staff requests for assistance with breakages etc.
- 8. replacing broken equipment as necessary
- **General **_To support staff in their provision of services by.
- 9. reporting problems to the Team Leader
- 10. assisting during drills and emergencies
- 11. attending training in first aid and health and safety as required
- 12. assisting with the installation of new equipment
- **Other **_ To carry out other duties as directed by the Team leader
- To ensure positive and productive relationships within WCGM with members of staff, volunteers, participants, service users and partners.

Attend training as required.

**Essential**:

- A. Good ability to work alone, on own initiative and team working skills
- B. Health and safety awareness
- C. Experience of completing accurate, robust repairs and maintenance, demonstrating good organisational skills, quality of work and value for money.

**Desirable**:

- D. Full clean UK driving licence
- E. Willing and able to be flexible in roles and undertake physically demanding and outdoor tasks when required.
- F. Solution focussed problem solving skills to achieve sustainable outcomes to minimise any harmful environmental impact.
- G. Commitment to the aims of WCGM, with an understanding of the sustainable, local food agenda.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: £12.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 per week
