**Purpose of the Role**:
Senior grade experienced freight train driver, responsible and able to train, coach, mentor and assess trainee and other train drivers within the company in freight driving and other operational skills. In addition, closely working with Freight Delivery Manager to provide support as required and act as role model for other drivers in his/her pod, in line with Colas Rail core values.

- Possess and constantly display all of the attributes of the five E’s—Energy, Energize, Edge, Execute and Engage
- Be confident and a role model when dealing with all staff with good attention to detail.
- Have good knowledge of the current requirements for Health and Safety and Rail Industry Standards.
- Be a proven team player with a logical searching mind
- Promote all Colas Rail core values including one team culture
- Qualified train driver with significant experience in freight train driving and an excellent safety record.
- 301/302 Assessor qualification
- Qualified Instructor
- Excellent Route Knowledge
- Good technical knowledge of all Colas Rail traction & rolling stock.
- Good leadership skills

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Undertake a high level of processional freight train driving with excellent route and traction knowledge.
- Instruct, mentor and assess train driving and railway operational skills.
- To assist the Delivery Manager with identifying and producing route and traction learning plans for drivers.
- To deputise the Delivery Manager if required.
- To assist the delivery manager with carrying out safety briefs.
- To assist the delivery manager with reviewing the weekly rosters
- To assist the delivery manager with producing train crew hours for new flows
- To assist the delivery manager with producing Method of works and Risk Assessments
- To assist Delivery manager with investigation and report production
- To act as first line respondent for incident and accident if required
- Fully competent in train preparation and In Service Train Examination.
- Fault finding and light maintenance on Traction and Rolling Stock.
- Report writing and completion of training logs/assessments.
- Communicate with customers and others in the rail industry, in order that the best interests of the Colas Rail are always met.
- Under the direction of Delivery Manager, liaise with the Resources and planning team to ensure driver rosters are correct and all SCO and commercial services are covered.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
