**Department**:
Applications are invited for a Research Associate for up to 12 months (ideally to start from 01/10/2023) to work within Professor Caroline Dessent's group during her tenure as Head of Department. The successful applicant will provide day-to-day support to Professor Dessent's research group, undertake some undergraduate teaching and carry out a research project in an area to be negotiated.

The Department of Chemistry is one of the UK's leading Chemistry departments and we are renowned internationally for our research. **Role**:
Working under the supervision of Professor Caroline Dessent you will conduct individual and collaborative research projects and will provide support to other members of Professor Dessent's group as required and undertake some undergraduate teaching, including supervision of research projects

Where appropriate you will:

- assist in the identification and development of potential areas of research and research proposals
- write up research results and disseminate them through publications
- maintain the group's web pages undertake appropriate organisational and administrative activities connected to the research project
- develop and initiate collaborative working internally and externally
- provide guidance to other staff and students as well as coordinating the work of small research teams

**Skills, Experience & Qualification needed**:

- A first degree in Chemistry or a related area
- PhD in Physical or Analytical Chemistry or equivalent experience
- Knowledge and experience of laser spectroscopy, to engage in high quality research
- Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies
- Experience of working with laser spectroscopy
- Highly developed communication skills including competency to make presentations
- Ability and experience in writing up research work for publication
- Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals
- Highly motivated, collaborative and professional work ethic, committed to high quality research, and a willingness to proactively support and train others
- Ability and experience in working closely within a team environment and independently using own initiative
- Personal commitment to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
