Gallery Assistant

This is initially a 6-month part-time position, but if the successful applicant performs well there is an option for this to become a permanent part-time, all year round position. Two days a week are available, preferably Sunday and Monday, but if those days don’t suit we may consider others. Other days will be available to cover the holidays of other staff members.
An overview of duties is as follows:
Serving customers efficiently, providing information and assistance as necessary and taking payments. Packing customers’ purchases appropriately and efficiently, ensuring the correct type and quantity of packing materials are used.
Receiving goods as they arrive, checking the orders are complete and correct, highlighting any discrepancies. Unpacking, pricing and displaying them in the gallery as appropriate.
Checking stock levels of items as directed, to help determine whether new orders need to be raised.
Packing, or helping to pack, items which need to be sent to customers.
Helping to merchandise the gallery, including the windows, as required and appropriate. Re-merchandising and replenishing displays as items are sold.
Working on the gallery’s website, adding new items, adjusting stock levels and noting and dealing with website orders from start to finish. Training will be given on this.
Ensuring the gallery is clean and tidy.
Ensuring the bags, boxes and packing materials are tidy and easily accessible.
Helping to monitor stock levels, including both shop floor stock and consumables, such as bags, tape, wrapping materials etc to ensure we don’t run out.
Hours: The days available are Monday and Tuesday every week, 10.00- 5.00pm, plus holiday cover for other members of staff on other days if required. If the successful applicant is taken on permanently the hours will be shortened slightly throughout December - March to 10.00-4.00pm.
Trial period: The first month of the 6-month term will be a trial period to assess performance and aptitude for the role.
Pay: The hourly rate will be determined on age and experience.
Holiday allowance: Will be calculated in accordance with the hours worked and government guidelines.
Interviews: Will be conducted in person, in the gallery.
Transport: A parking permit will be provided for free parking in the village and there is secure storage during the day for a bicycle. There’s a regular and reliable bus service to Grasmere from the surrounding areas, and the prices are currently capped at £2.00 per journey.
