**Job summary**:
To provide support to the occupational therapy team and assist registered therapy staff to provide an effective and efficient patient centred service.

The post holder will have a delegated caseload and will work within agreed treatment plans, protocols and policies without direct supervision, and alongside the multi-professional team.

There will be a strong focus on rehabilitating patients, including transfers from critical care, so that they can be

discharged home, or referred to other discharge destinations.

To understand the process of delegation of duties by a registered Occupational Therapist and the importance of maintaining competence in order to carry out delegated tasks.

The duties of the post will include working on the in-patients wards, therapy departments, and carrying out community visits as directed by registered occupational therapy staff.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:

We are looking for a motivated, hard-working and autonomous person with fantastic problem-solving skills, who enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds.

No one day is ever the same, with the opportunity to work with patients with a variety of conditions across multiple specialities, including oncology, haematology, specialist surgery and healthcare of the older person.

By working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop from our high quality teaching environment. You will also have access to regular support and supervision, alongside in-service training.

There are also opportunities to further develop your career at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital within the Occupational Therapy Department.

- Good level of written and spoken English and Maths (at least GCSE or equivalent)
- Evidence of personal development related to healthcare.

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Relevant experience within the NHS health care setting to include direct contact with patients.
- Able to work independently with guidance.
- A knowledge of the aims and principles of occupational therapy.
- An understanding of the implications of illness and disability.
- An understanding of the working environment - healthcare / NHS.
- An understanding of safe provision and use of patient equipment in this area.
