Trainee Biomedical Scientist

This role is for a trainee Biomedical Scientist who has completed an IBMS accredited Biomedical Science degree and requires support to become a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
The trainee will work as part of a team with other Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical Support Workers within the Chemical Pathology section of the Blood Science laboratory. The trainee will be expected to undertake and complete the IBMS registration portfolio and gain HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist as part of this role.
The trainee will also be trained to contribute to the out-of-hours shifts system within the department, covering some late shifts, weekend shifts and possibly some night shifts.
This role will perform general and specialist analysis of samples received in the Blood Science laboratory. This includes working across multiple areas such as Automated Chemistry, Manual, Point of Care Testing and Specimen Reception. These procedures include the analysis of complex samples which ultimately contribute to the production of a laboratory report, which may impact directly on patient care.
You are to work in all sections of Blood Sciences, completing analytical and maintenance tasks, as required after suitable training and direction.

These values serve as a guiding principle, driving us towards our vision of delivering great joined up services to our local community. Whether at home, in the community, or within the hospital, our goal is to empower individuals to lead independent and healthier lives.”
We provide services in the acute hospital, in the community and in primary care; caring for over 1.2 million contacts every year. We have recently taken over the provision of two GP practices and are excited for the future as we work towards a completely integrated healthcare system in Swindon.
We value the diversity of our colleagues and actively champion an inclusive culture. We have a workforce of 5,200 and are committed to helping our colleagues achieve a work/life balance and proudly offer supportive, inclusive and family friendly employment with an on-site nursery available and flexible working policies. You'll be joining a great team in a great place, where your commitment will be genuinely valued, your skills respected, and your ambition rewarded.
You will undertake general and specialist analysis of samples received in Blood Sciences, on a rotational basis throughout all sections of Biochemistry, (Automated, Manual, Point of Care Testing). These procedures include the analysis and interpretation of complex results which ultimately leads to the production of a laboratory report, which may impact directly on patient care. You are responsible for informing the Chemical Pathologist of any result that may need immediate clinical action.
You are to ensure that clinical results are authorised within defined turnaround times and that you are capable of doing so without direct supervision.
You are to work in all sections of Blood Sciences, completing analytical and maintenance tasks, as required after suitable training and direction.
You may be required to assist in the development of policies and procedures in the designated areas, and as a result the development of the Department.
You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Out of Hours service rota.
You will be aware that any information gained by virtue of employment, including any confidential/personal information concerning patients or staff, must not be divulged to other staff not directly involved. A breach of confidentiality would result in disciplinary action.
