**About The Service**
The Inclusion Service is part of the Education and Lifelong Learning Directorate and is responsible for ensuring the council meets its statutory responsibilities to children and young people with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

The service works with, supports and coordinates provision for children and young people with additional learning needs, their families and education settings to ensure that learners access their entitlement. This includes supporting smooth transitions into a range of settings or pathways based on their goals and aspirations.

**About the job**
The post 16 ALN team are part of the inclusion service and work jointly with Cardiff Commitment to drive forward employment pathways and outcomes for young people with ALN. In 2021, we teamed up with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to deliver a supported internship programme at the Heath Hospital which provided a successful route into employment for young people with learning disabilities and/or autism.

The young people are supported by a team that includes a supported internship service manager, senior teaching assistants/HLTA’s, job coach and business mentors with the aim of:

- creating an employment goal;
- supporting transition from school to work; and
- obtaining full time employment at the end of the year.

Due to expansion of the programme, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior teaching assistants/HLTAs to work with us to continue to deliver successful employment outcomes for young people on the supported internships. Key responsibilities include:

- Playing a pivotal part in empowering young people with learning disabilities to achieve their career aspirations;
- Under the guidance of senior staff, deliver an employability curriculum to a small group of young people whilst embedding Maths and English to support their development and transition towards employment;
- Working in close collaboration with job coaches to ensure young people receive the intensive support and mentoring required to develop employability skills and access sustainable employment;
- Identifying student’s strengths, interests, and abilities related to skill acquisition, job development and employment; and
- Maintaining student learning plans, setting appropriate long-term goals and short-term targets with students based on participation and skill development. Review learning plans and record progress.

Your main base will be at the Heath Hospital in Cardiff but might vary across sites.

**What We Are Looking For From You**
We are looking for a highly organised, motivated and passionate individual who holds high aspirations for young people with learning disabilities and a strong belief in their ability and right to work. You will be able to establish trusting relationships with young people and their families and inspire them to aspire to paid employment.

You will have experience of successful inclusive working practice with children and young people with learning disabilities and/or autism and their parents/carers and other professionals.

The ability to be flexible and able to work well in a team is paramount to this role, as well as the ability to work under your own initiative. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as you will be liaising with key stakeholders both internally and externally.
