Grave Digger

We are currently looking to recruit a Grave Digger. The role will be based in Medway. In this role, you will undertake a range of planning, preparations and maintenance duties within the cemetery, including;
**Job Role**:

- Using relevant manual and mechanical machinery to carry out digs and backfills
- Preparing sites for funerals with grass matting and boards
- Maintaining the site, including planting, pruning and weeding
- Planning and selecting appropriate sites
- Correctly locates graves using cemetery plans and maps in accordance with agreed procedures
- Prepares, digs and backfills graves, either mechanically or manually, using necessary shoring, shuttering and plant equipment
- Prepares and dresses graves for funerals with grass matting and boards
- Carries out occasional exhumations
- Ensure all equipment required for the grave digging processes is kept in good order, clean and safe for use.
- Levels and turfs graves and the surrounding areas - May include other grounds activities as planting, pruning, weeding, strimming, litter picking, clearing leaves
- Cleaning and maintenance of the surrounding areas
- Help ensure the maintenance of orderly conduct by visitors to the cemetery - Snow clearing and salt spreading as required
- Report any defected equipment, perimeter gates/fencing, damaged headstones or memorials and any items of concern within the cemetery boundaries.

**Requirements for the role**:

- Experience using 180 & 360 digging equipment, ideally with the relevant Lantra Award
- Knowledge of relevant health & safety guidelines
- Working in a grounds maintenance role
- Ability to work autonomously, as an individual and as part of a team
- Good communication skills, written and verbal
- Full UK Driving Licence

**Shift Times & Pay Rates**:

- 0700-1630
- Monday - Friday
- Average shift length will be around 8-9hrs

**Job Type**: Temp to perm
Contract length: 12 weeks

**Salary**: From £10.42 per hour
