A vacancy has arisen for a 0.8 whole time equivalent Display Screen Equipment /Manual Handler (DSE/MH) Advisor covering WAST’S All Wales estate. This role would involve working from home and base location with site visits undertaken as / when required.
- The post holder will be able to use their knowledge to analyse and interpret facts or situations presented in typical and unusual scenarios such as health and safety risks within office environments and those encountered by patient facing staff to provide practical risk-based solutions.
- To maintain a comprehensive manual handling advisory service and ongoing programme for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders for all healthcare staff.
- To contribute to the development, implementation, and delivery of the manual handling training programme in accordance with the Manual Handling National Standards across the Health Board, legislative requirements and associated Approved Codes of Practice/guidance.
- To develop and deliver on ‘Train the Trainer ‘Display Screen Equipment
- Freedom to Act as the Trust’s Subject Matter Expert on Display Screen Equipment and Manual Handling.

To provide competent professional manual handling advice to all levels of Managers and Employees within the Trust to assist with best practice and legislative compliance.

Ensure that the appropriate advice is given to secure value for money and mínimal waste.

To represent the service and the Trust by attending appropriate meetings (internal and external) aimed at developing effective working relationships with colleagues from other areas and which encourage joint working and the sharing of good practice. This comprises of representation at high level meetings including the Trusts National Health & Safety Committee All Wales Manual Handling Groups and Quality and Patient Safety Groups.

To present information around manual handling and display screen equipment issues at the appropriate forums i.e. Territorial Health and Safety meetings.

Demonstrate sensitive communication and negotiation skills and maintain confidentiality when supporting Trusts staff with performance related learning needs.

Report any errors or issues identified within the training material and delivery platforms the Deputy Head of Health and Safety and delivery platform designers, e.g. Software developers/Web Designers.

Maintain the Manual Handling and Display Screen Equipment content of the Health and Safety webpage.

Develop promotional information based on good practices and updated guidance/ techniques for communication across the Trust.

Establish good working relationships with all Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust personnel from the Senior Management Team to Operational Crews.

Deliver or receive complex and sensitive information findings areas such as serious incident investigations for both staff and patients as well as feedback from Health and Safety Executive interaction with the Trust.

Appropriately use communication skills to persuade, motivate, negotiate and empathise with staff when required e.g. encouraging staff to change behaviours to undertake a safer handling technique to reduce potential for injury

Analytical

To develop a suite of generic manual handling risk assessments.

To assist operational staff in the undertaking of safer handling risk assessments monitoring and evaluating best practice where required.

To utilise the incident reporting system by reviewing manual handling and display screen equipment related incidents, carrying out trend analysis and ensuring all relevant documentation is stored within the Datix system.

Be responsible for the DSE training and assessment package on Launchpad platform

Provide DSE compliance to all line managers across the Trust in a report format for presenting at National Health and Safety Committee.

To undertake regularly monthly Audits & Inspections of areas targeted through the Health and Safety Monitoring Programme.

Assist in the Trust ensure display screen equipment compliance with hybrid ways of working.

To identify urgent issues and deal with them immediately including RIDDOR reportable incidents, ensuring actions are identified which improve safety within the Trust.
