**Job summary**:
The Communities & Integration Directorate sits at the heart of the government’s aim to level up opportunities for everyone and DLUHC goals to establish socially and economically stronger communities. The Counter-Extremism leads on supporting communities, preventing radicalisation, and tackling social harms to bring people together. Delivering governance for high-level Counter-Extremism workstreams is the responsibility of the C&I Counter Extremism Secretariat Function team.

In order to successfully lead the Counter-Extremism Board with the highest level of decision making and to assist bringing counter-extremism workstreams together, you will be representing the chairs throughout Whitehall in this capacity.

In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of the Counter-Extremism Secretariat Function, give strategic advice to the chair, make clear requests, monitor, and clear papers, set a strategic forward look to present the right items to the senior at the right time, and support the Board's full coherence and effectiveness.

**Job description**:
Specific duties will include:

- Overseeing and implementation and coordination of secretariat function
- Determining commissions according to specifications to guarantee reliability and excellence.
- Leading on highly demanding strategic briefings, including interacting with HMG partners to join briefings efforts, host ministers, or meet other needs.
- Commissioning counter extremism programmes to delivery partners.
- Responding at pace to new challenges and improving the evidence base.
- Line management of staff (2x SEO) in a way that improves business performance and builds capability.
- Leading team to complete counter extremism projects and initiatives.

**Person specification**:
This position is a member of a wider team that oversees workstreams related to strategic counter-extremism. You will be required to assist as needed in this job, which will include briefings.

The role requires a person with strong organisation and communication skills
- someone who can quickly assess complex information and identify the key issues.

The role requires a person with excellent briefing and communication skills (both oral and written). The person must be comfortable briefing ministers and senior officials in person.

The role will involve extensive stakeholder engagement and requires a person who can build and sustain relationships both across Whitehall and with groups outside of government.

An ability to identify political and handling issues associated with policy proposals is essential. As this is a fast paced environment the person will need to provide leadership to their team, prioritising work and ensuring tight deadlines are met.

**Essential Criteria**
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to develop relationships across all grades to improve work relations and delivery.
- The ability to think strategically and understand complex policy and operational issues.
- Possess strong strategic thinking abilities, the capacity to solve problems, the capacity to interact with both detail and the large picture, and the ability to move between the two with ease.
- Possess exceptional writing, communication, and guidance abilities.
- The capacity to respond to stresses and pinch spots across a larger portfolio by working flexibly in a small team and lending help to others as needed.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Knowledge of extremist ideologies.
- Knowledge of government initiatives to counter extremism.
