**Job Purpose**

To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of service users in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence and to help in the general day to day activities of the home. To be aware of Safeguarding procedures and protocols and ensure these are adhered to at all times. Care provided by care assistants is expected to include care that would reasonably be given by members of the service user’s own family and in accordance with the individual care plan.

**Principal Accountabilities and Activities**
- To assist service users who need help with getting up in the morning, dressing, and undressing, washing, bathing and using toilet facilities.
- To help service users with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence, help in use and care of aids and personal equipment.
- To care for service users who are temporarily sick and needing, for example, minor dressings, bed nursing, help with feeding etc.
- To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service users through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
- To make and change beds, tidy rooms, do light cleaning and empty commodes.
- To maintain accurate notes and records and to handover information to day care staff that is relevant to the ongoing care of individual service users.
- To set tables and trays, prepare light meals and wash up, tidy and clean dining room.
- To answer emergency call bells in a timely manner.
- To answer the door and the telephone, greet visitors appropriately
- To encourage service users to remain as independent as possible.
- To carry out regular checks on service users at intervals determined by the head of home and with due regard for service users’ privacy and dignity.
- To carry out regular checks on the building at intervals determined by the head of home with special reference to fire prevention and security.
- To attend and partake in service user and staff meetings.
- To attend training as required and continue with personal development.
- To know what action to take in the event of a fire being discovered or the fire alarms sounding.
- To report to nurse or to the home manager any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a service user.

This list of duties is not exhaustive and only outlines the main duties, other reasonable duties maybe requested by home manager or senior members of staff.

**Qualifications, Training and Experience**
- To have worked in a similar caring background.
- NVQ Level 1/2.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment.

**Environment**

All staff should bear in mind the overall objectives of the Home, namely that Residents will be encouraged to maintain independence and choice in a homely environment which promotes excellent customer relationships.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 12 - 24 per week

**Salary**: £11.00 per hour
