**I**ntroduction**

We are looking to recruit 2 x Moves Supervisors to work alongside the Project Moves Lead as part of the Moves Project team, to complete the preparation work and supervise the safe and secure move of Parliamentary Archives collections out of the Victoria Tower.

The Parliamentary Archives holds over 13km of physical records dating back to 1497, it is a shared service of both Houses of Parliament, based in the House of Lords but jointly funded by the House of Lords and House of Commons. It provides innovative and expert information management, preservation, access and outreach services enabling anyone in the world to use Parliament’s records, both now and in the future.

Parliament has been considering options to improve the Archives’ accommodation, to support both Houses’ public engagement and heritage objectives, and to ensure the continued safety of the collections. The key objectives of the Archives Relocation Programme (ARP) are to remove the Parliamentary Archives’ collections in an orderly fashion from the Victoria Tower: (i) to reduce the risks to the collection; (ii) to enable Restoration & Renewal (R&R) works to begin; and (iii) to continue to be able to deliver Archives’ services.

The ARP Business Case has proposed that the House of Lords and the House of Commons will enter into an agreement with a partner organisation about the transfer of the Parliamentary records and the future provision of the Parliamentary Archive services. There is no agreed date yet for the transfer, but this role will play a key role in delivering the work required to prepare and move the collections.

The Moves project will start up in April 2023 and run concurrently with the Prepare and Move (PAM) project. These posts will be a key part of moves activities and will also work with moves contractors.

**The Role**

These posts will work within a project timetable, alongside the Archive Relocation Programme and Parliamentary Archive staff, to complete preparation work and deliver the safe and secure move of Archive collections to offsite storage premises and the partner organisation

The main focus of these posts is the supervision of records moves from the Victoria Tower - supervising tracking, auditing, palletising and working with project and Parliamentary Archives staff, contractors and various key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities within the role include:

- Develop documentation, workflows and processes to enable scanning/tracking of collections items as they move
- Undertaking planning and organisation of preparatory work prior to moves, liaising with other Project and Archives teams.
- Support the Project Moves Lead with the day-to-day management of the logistics, liaising with a variety of colleagues, contractors and stakeholders
- Working alongside Prepare and Move team and Archives colleagues to complete move related activities, e.g. undertaking labelling and or collection care/packaging work, in line with established procedures to enable the safe and secure move of collections items

**Competencies and Essential Qualifications**
- Experience of working with Library and Archive collections in a heritage building and / or working in a project management environment.
- ** Experience and Knowledge**: Understanding of the significance of heritage collections and the importance of their safety and security, especially during a move. Experience of working in a fast moving, complex project or programme environment with many constituent parts and stakeholders.
- ** Team Working and Collaboration**: Ability to work in daily close collaboration as part of a small team, but also the ability to work inclusively and flexibly across other project teams and with Archives colleagues

Accuracy and Attention to Detail**: Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and motivation when performing routine and repetitive tasks, whilst also adhering to project targets
