Due to new funding, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the Speech and Language Therapy Education Team at Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) NHS Trust. You will work within the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) special schools team, supporting children and young people with a range of complex needs including learning difficulties. The role involves working with the SLTs to deliver interventions to develop children and young people’s language and communication skills and supporting the schools to embed good universal and targeted practise within their setting. In addition, the post holder will also be required to support with making some therapy materials and supporting Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems (AAC).

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal and team-working skills and an interest and experience of working with school-aged children and young people with complex needs.

To develop, plan, and implement programmes of support to children/young people and families under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapy line manager and team, to promote development of communication, language and speech skills for children and young people

To conduct health promotion activities and workshops independently, under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapist e.g. sensory stories, play skills.

To assist the SLTs in assessments, such as taking observations of children’s communication skills e.g. social communication, play, attention, understanding, language, communication functions and speech.

To contribute to clinical teams both multi-disciplinary and uni-disciplinary by discussing own and others input around family’s needs.
