Summary

Term Fixed Term Contract until 31st December 2025

Salary £26,000 - £29,000

Pension A contributory pension scheme is available.
Contribution rates are 7% of salary from the employer and a minimum of 5% from the employee.

Hours of work 35 hours per week. We’re happy to talk flexible working.

Location Scouts Scotland Headquarters, Dunfermline (or based from home) with the flexibility to work using a hybrid approach by agreement with your line manager. You will primarily work in the West of
Scotland but flexibility will be needed as is required by the project.

Holidays 25 days a year (rising incrementally to a maximum of
32 days after 8 years) plus 9 bank holidays. We're also closed over the Christmas and New Years period, giving you 3 extra days of leave.

The Role
We’re looking for a Local Growth Officer to join our team, either based at Scouts
Scotland Headquarters, Dunfermline or working from home. We’re happy to talk flexible working. This role will primarily work in the West of Scotland but flexibility will be needed as is required by the project.

We’re a national charity and a membership organisation. You’ll be passionate about the work we do helping young people to become the best they can be. You’ll enjoy forming relationships and working with our amazing volunteers and always be on the lookout for where we can make the biggest difference.

Officer to help us achieve that.

A Local Growth Officer is somebody who shares our passion to make Scouting accessible to all, who proactively helps our Regions and Districts to achieve their growth ambitions, focusing specifically on opening new Sections, and who sets themselves goals, monitors their own progress and measures their impact.

You’ll provide practical hands on support that creates new spaces for young people to join, and recruit adult volunteers to support them, prioritising areas of deprivation and underrepresented communities.

Our Scouting Operations Team is a professional resource for the achievement of the
Scouts Scotland Strategy and you’ll be part of this team. We support our extensive volunteer team to provide an impactful programme, to develop our people, to grow our organisation and ensure our young people’s voices are heard. As a Local Growth
Officer, you will support our volunteers to turn local needs into action plans and turn national priorities into reality.

This role will involve evening and weekend work and you can expect to travel frequently. Access to a car is essential. 03

Key Tasks
Main Roles

Work within a team of Scouting Operations Officers, Growth & Communities
Officers, Local Growth Officers, a Scouting Operations Manager and a Head of
Scouting Operations; contributing to a healthy and supportive team culture
Work with our Scouts Scotland volunteer team, and other lead volunteers to support the delivery of our Scouts Scotland Skills for Life strategy
Work with District and Group Lead Volunteers to open at least 10 new Sections per year to grow Scouting according to approved Growth Plans, specifically in areas of deprivation and underrepresented communities
Support Districts to understand their current community reach and use your own knowledge and further research to identify other opportunities for growth
Set yourself goals, monitor your progress, evaluate and measure your impact, producing regular progress reports against targets and within agreed timescales
Meet up and collaborate with other Local Growth Officers across the rest of the
United Kingdom at least four times per year

Other Responsibilities
Ensure Scouting is community-focused and supports local initiatives
Encourage and support youth-shaped Scouting at local and national levels
Provide practical support to help volunteers improve their skills and knowledge
Provide information and advice relating to The Scouts’ Policy Organisation and Rules
Respond to enquiries from our members, the public and other colleagues
Record and evaluate the impact of national projects and initiatives
Work collaboratively with Scouts Scotland volunteers
Work collaboratively with The Scouts (UK) to maintain good practice
Undertake other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time
Maintain a positive image for Scouting
