Dementia Voice Group Support Volunteer

London, United Kingdom Alzheimer's Society Full time

**About The Role**:
Are you passionate about enabling people affected by dementia to share their experiences and be heard? If so, then we’d love to hear from you

Local Dementia Voice activities enable people living with dementia to engage in meaningful activities within a group setting, either online or face-to-face, and to have a voice. They do this by using their experiences to influence the work both of Alzheimer's Society and the health and social care environment on matters to improve the quality of their lives.

You’ll help to set up the room and tidy away at the end of the group as well as prepare and handout refreshments. You’ll welcome and talk with people living with dementia and assist them where necessary to engage in Dementia Voice activities and, if supporting an online group, to join in the conversation. Some light administration duties, such as registering attendees or taking meeting notes may also be involved.

We are recruiting a potential Volunteer for our Under 65 Young Onset Dementia Voice Group currently based in Worthing and meet on a monthly basis.

The expectations of this role would include engaging people living with dementia to seek their views and opinions, administration tasks including minute taking and general helpful duties eg. meet and greet and serving refreshments.

**You’ll** be great for the role if**:

- You are aware of or are interested in learning about dementia and its impact on people, their needs and enabling them to share their experiences.
- You can demonstrate empathy, compassion and patience.
- You have good communication skills, especially listening, and are organised.
- You enjoy meeting new people and being part of a team.
- You are over the age of 16

**About Alzheimer's Society**:
At Alzheimer's Society, we believe passionately that life doesn't end when dementia begins. We are here for anyone affected by dementia, and we do everything we can to keep people with dementia connected to their lives and the people who matter most.

Everything we do is shaped by people affected by dementia. Their knowledge and experience are critical to bringing about real-world solutions. From choosing the most promising research through to telling their stories to raise awareness; they are the heart of this organisation.

**Our Values**

We are **Determined to make a difference** when and where it matters most, by being passionate, focussed and making a lasting impact for people affected by dementia.

Every one of us is a **Trusted expert**, listening, learning and using evidence and experience. We are **Better together** by being open, combining our strengths, helping us to achieve more together. We are **Compassionate**, we are kind and honest, and we don’t shy away from challenges.

Through our values we will make the greatest difference for people affected by dementia.

**Equal Opportunities**

We want everyone we work with, as a colleague, volunteer, supporter, or someone we support, to feel included and that they belong at Alzheimer's Society.

We are committed to building a diverse organisation that represents the communities we serve and ensuring inclusion in everything we do. During your recruitment process we want to make sure that you bring your whole self and be at your best.
